"Plutoed" has been chosen as word of the year for 2006 by the American Dialect Society, beating "climate canary" in a run-off vote.
If you have been "plutoed" you have been demoted or devalued, just as happened to the former planet Pluto when its status was downgraded.
First, its a retarded term. Second, how can it be word of the year...this is the first time I've ever heard it.

And what the fuck is a climate canary? If anything, this proves how much more idiotic Americans have become in past years. We can't even make up terms that don't sound like the verbal excrement of ten year olds.

Both are about equally retarded. I don't even know what they're using to evaluate the worth of these 'words' but whatever it is it's bullshit...just like the entire concept.

I hate it! Not only does it sound stupid, needs an explanation each time you use it, but it also opens the wound of Pluto not being a planet anymore which really irks me for some reason.

I've never heard of plutoed either. Bizarre, i was reading the morning paper and saw the article and i was like "whatever" and come on here and see the exact same headline.

I don't mind plutoed as much as climate canary. Also why are these official words?

Any word that can follow the phrase "dude, you just got..." sucks, and plutoed is a sorry excuse to make the end of that phrase topical.

I'm not sure what bothers me more... The fact that there exists an entity called the American Dialect Society, the fact that they have made major news, or that they picked something so stupid to do it with.
Pluto being demoted was a long time comming though.

This whole "word of the year" nonsense seems ridiculous to me. Not to mention the fact that "plutoed" doesn't even register as a word to me. If anyone actually tried to drop that in on a conversation, I would probably just stare at them like they were retarded.
