Contra 4 is out, and its supposed to be good. (http://www.gamespot.com/ds/action/contra4/review.html?sid=6183645&om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;picks;title;3) The screens look like everything a contra sequel should be. Want.
Oh and check this gameplay vid out. (http://www.gamespot.com/video/941461/6174312/contra-4-official-movie-1) The music is fucking rad.

Fuck yes, I will definitely be getting it when I get a DS, hopefully soon.
-
That sounds so awesome. Now that I have a DS, I'm all over this. I'm going to suck and die like mad crazy, because I had trouble even going back and playing the SNES Contra a while back where I used to totally pwn it, but... oh well. I still need this. It's just too good to pass up.
-
I played this for about ten minutes, died, got pissed off and haven't played it since. I'll give it another go today.
-
Difficulty level is rage-inducing at times
Could never be interested in a game like that. I might get a DS soon though.

Contra games have always been notoroius (or popular) for their difficulty. Even more so since we all get used to games where you can take a hit or two before you kick the bucket. In all (I think all) Contra games 1 scratch and you lose a life.
-
And they'd be hard even if you could take 2 or 3 hits.
-
I've had this game for about 3 weeks and I still can't beat the fourth stage. I haven't tossed my DS around this much since playing Mario Kart online.
-
Well I eventually picked it up and dudes... this game is like the best Contra sequel since like Contra 3 for the SNES. Well... maybe Im making my conclusion too quick since Ive only made it to the 2nd stage, but damn, its just soo fucking awesome on every level. Sure its hard, I hit the game over screen 2 minutes into the game, but I can't help but love it since its everything you want out of a Contra game. It feels more like a remade or remixed version of the original contra than a sequel as levels and enemies mimic those from the first game and theres many music themes remixed from it as well and they sound awesome. The dual screen stuff is put to good use as it expands the area of play, you can take the high road or just stay below and even bosses will take up both screen. It also looks fantastic, enemies and sprites animate really well, and the environments are pretty vibrant with color. In the end, if you have any love for Contra and own a DS, you must own this.

*That's* what I forgot to pick up the other day. I knew there was another DS game I'd been thinking of. God knows I don't need another since I haven't had time to play all the shit I've got in the first place, but I definitely will pick this up at some point just because it's Contra and I have to.
-
Yea, you totally need to because we could play co-op on this bitch.
-
Dude, that would be so awesome. I'm totally getting it like... soon.
-
Perhaps I should consider getting this but Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is slightly more tempting, though Contra 4 would be better for quick sessions when I'm in between calls or on break at work. Decisions, decisions.
-
Yea, Im surprised you havent already picked up Portrait of Ruin. PoR was really fun, it tends to drag and get a little repetitious towards the end, I hear the other DS Castlevania game is a little better.
I wouldnt be surprised if Contra 4 is just a handful of levels, cause its pretty damned hard, like you said not a game you want to put long sessions into, unless your hardcore like that.
