Doesn't get much better than this:

That's a good deal. The card is $60 in Canada -- it might go on sale once a year down to $50.
To be honest though, I am considering not renewing my Gold subscription. I barely play online on XBL. Though, with Gears of War 2 I have been playing online again, but still very sporadically.
-
Sold Out, fuck. I still need to renew too.
-
It's been bouncing in and out of stock. Just keep checking.
-
If it doesn't pop back up, amazon has a slightly worse deal on it.

I have a better deal: playing on my PS3 and PC for free.
I know, I'm trolling. I just can't help it. I'm mad at Microsoft right now.

I confirm concurrence with Que.
-
I hereby renounce my trolling, though. Because I wasn't trying to turn the thread in that direction, and really, 30 bucks for over a year is a pretty good deal.
-
I maintain concurrence with Que.
It's a pretty good offer. Easily more sensible than paying >$10 for MMOs.
-
If I say that I love fat, ugly women, are you going to maintain concurrence with me?
-
Nothing like a slumpbuster

What games are you guys actually playing on Live now? Nearly all of the few people I know at my job that play games seem to be doing Gears 2, but is there anything else out now worth playing online?
-
My friend and I have been hitting up Carcassonne lately. The game plays surprisingly well on XBL. Aside from that, I haven't been playing much of anything online lately, what with Chrono Trigger DS, Fallout, LittleBigPlanet, and Diablo 2 occupying my time.
-
Oh yeah, Carcassonne... I forgot about that one. I've heard a lot about it. I wish more games like that came out.
-
They have Catan as well. A few expansions for both, too. The games are actually more cost effective than their real-life counterparts.
-
And a hell of a lot easier to find people to play with, more than likely.

Same as the Amazon deal, on Newegg. They've had that price for a while, I got mine from them at that price in November. So while $39 is technically cheaper than $50, it's not that out of the ordinary.
$30 is a bit better though.

The only thing I've managed to log any time online with on my Xbox is L4D, though I also have Gears 2 and The Orange Box. I need to get Halo 3. I've got a buddy from college who's on it 24/7 and I can't get him to play anything else.

I'm not one to judge :P But probably.
-
I never knew that XBL was so expensive. $50? Seriously? And that's not even counting the points.
-
Microsoft really needs some other incentive to get a Gold membership. They are getting there with the Netflix thing and I've seen some discounts on XBLA games for Gold members, but it was a very limited selection. There seriously needs to be something like a 10% discount for Gold members or something. It's just not worth it at all for people who don't play console games online.
-
I'll buy that. If you don't play online then there isn't a lot of incentive.

They recently decided to punish silver accounts by delaying content a week. It affects demos and other free stuff at least. So don't let them tell you it was a positive move to give gold accounts anything sooner. There's also more advertising popping up on NXE. Gold doesn't make it go away. If you already have Gold, they make it tough to cancel. You have to figure out the phone number and call them. You can't cancel on the Xbox, or online, and you can't let it lapse into a silver account by blowing away the credit card account tied to XBL. When gold expires, they'll just hold your account hostage until you pay or go through the phone-call hell. No logging on for you. Nice folks, eh?
-
Yeah I think it's bullshit they let you upgrade to Gold so easy through the Xbox, but they make you call to cancel.

That didnt happen to me. When my gold ran out it immediately went back to silver and I didnt do anything.
-
Did you get gold with an XBL card, or did you use a credit card?
-
I used a XBL card, which is the only way I thought was possible.
-
Yeah, I have to admit that I'm a little miffed at the amount of advertising that's being put up on the service. Especially since PS3's is free and their user browser isn't plastered with the shit.
-
Although if you think about it, we pay for magazines, cable, movie tickets, etc and we're subjected to advertising in all of those. So I guess ultimately none of us should be surprised.
-
If you buy XBL with a card, your subscription is not set for renewal, and as a result, once it ends, it ends. No further action is needed on your part. If you pay with a credit card, it's likely to be set with automatic renewal on, and you have to call to cancel that.
And yea, I really don't like the ads and shit all over NXE. They've got an entire tab devoted to ads once you log onto XBL. Annoying as hell.
-
What really annoyed me a couple days ago was seeing some commercial leading one of the info videos, Major's Minute I think. I backed out as soon as I realized I was watching a commercial, and haven't gone back. That's just wrong. Leeching into your credit card for auto renewals out of your control is even more wrong. I found out about that from some thread about people getting their accounts suspended because they had let their credit cards expire. Rather than reverting to silver, they were locked out. Fuckers.
So the lesson is clear. If you're new to this, buy XBL cards as you need them. Don't let them get a hold of your credit card account.
