That looks interesting! I hope they ironed out a lot of the issues with the combat. Ideally I'd like to see it being more like Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I loved The Witcher's combat -- where it was still mouse style (for the most part), but no obsessive click-fest like say Diablo series and Sacred series. I don't mind the click-fest of those two games, but it's nice to have a game go for something else.

For camera angles, I'd like to see other than what they had in the first one -- also an additional Free-Cam option a la Sacred 2 and NWN games.

I really hope Witcher 2 has more skills, more equipment, and more magic abilities.

QTE's (Quick-Time Events) really looked...interesting compared to how they usually are tacted-on, actually -- that it looks like it happens while possibly in dialogue and/or in combat.

I dunno, but I must have this game.

Oh, where's Que, dammit? I want him to comment on W2...

CDPR offers up an official statement due to the leak of the Alpha vid of the game. (http://www.thewitcher.com/community/en/news/933.html)

Quote
“Of course, we can’t and won’t try to deny the facts. The movie that appeared on the various sites yesterday presents our newest project, The Witcher 2, which we’ve been working on for some time. We made something about half year ago, to present the first playable version of the game.” said Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt RED. “Currently we are looking for a potential publisher (or publishers) for this title, and this leak is an uncontrolled side effect of that process. For today, we are not commenting on anything that concerns the game itself.”

More information about The Witcher 2 will be unveiled alongside the official announcement.

I'd be excited, but I still haven't finished the first one.  I got pretty close and then put it down and ended up starting it over after the EE stuff came out.  And then never had time to finish it.

I finished through Witcher (Original), but never EE. Every once and a while, I get that knack to go back and get a little further through EE. I really should finish EE -- I wanna this time, for the romance-path, follow the Triss path, instead of Shani...

I'm bettin' once Que gets through EE and Witcher 2 draws closer to release, Que will be like me -- drooling for Witcher 2.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the first one completely and I think it's fantastic they're doing a sequel.  Once I start seeing media it'll probably spur me on to finish the first.  It's easily one of my top CRPGs of all time, whether I finished it or not.  Just talking about it is making me want to play...

As i did in the news section of the forum, I would like to thank you for you opinions on this movie, however unfortunate's the way it was published.

What i want to point out is, the voices in the movie are of course placeholders. This is an internal presentation based on early alpha of the game.

A bunch of FAQ's answered by Tomasz Gop of CD Projekt, in regards to The Witcher 2. (http://www.gry-online.pl/S018.asp?id=547)

Quote
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, leaked video - FAQ

Q: Does the leaked video show final or close to final product quality?

A: As Adam (CD Projekt RED CEO) noted in our response to the leak, the video was created using a very early alpha version of The Witcher 2 and therefore does not represent the final quality of the game in any way. Basically, the video was created six months ago to show the game to the potential publishers, and a lot has changed since that time. Moreover, the movie does not even touch the main aspect of the game, which is it’s story. We put all our efforts into making the story even more exciting and captivating, giving our fans exactly what they expect.

Q: I don’t like Geralt’s voice. Are those final voiceovers for the game?

A: After seeing the video many of you worried about the quality of voiceovers and the different voices used by lead characters. We’re proud that our team members can imitate native English actors so well that some people would even consider these VOs being part of the final product :). However, we are not planning to change RED into the world’s first non-native recording studio for English movies and games by using non-native non-actors. Don’t worry, we’ll stay in our day jobs. The voices in the video are not in any way final, and were only created for the purposes of the video. By the way - personally, I don’t like Geralt’s voice in this movie either ;).

Q: Will the developers of The Witcher be involved in The Witcher 2?

A: The Witcher 2 is being developed by the same team which was responsible for the first one with some minor changes (50+ people remain from The Witcher’s development). It is true that there were some cuts in the development department at CD Projekt, but those were mostly connected with freezing development of The Witcher: Rise of The White Wolf.

Q: What is the release date?

A: We haven’t established a release date yet. It will be announced together with our future publisher. However, please do not expect the game too soon. The Witcher 2 is still deeply in the development stage and as it is huge and complex, there is still many, many hours of work in front of us.

Q: When we will see more materials from the game?

A: Except for this FAQ we do not plan any materials to be released soon. An official trailer and other stuff will be done with our publisher, and it won’t be very soon. Sorry.

Q: What engine will be used in The Witcher 2?

A: The game does not use the Aurora Engine anymore. We developed a brand new engine dedicated to creating games with the design and features we love (basically the same concept as in the first Witcher but everything done much better, smoother and with some significant improvements). The new engine is fully scalable and, well… kicks ass;). We believe it will let us avoid all bottlenecks we came across during development of the first Witcher. Exact engine specifications, features and name will be revealed after the official announcement.

Q: What platform will the game be released on?

A: Although PC is certain choice we made regarding platforms for The Witcher 2, we also want to release the console version. More information will come after official announcement of the game.

AFAIK, CDPR was NOT happy w/ Widescreen Studios for not meeting their milestones.
Let me go find that link....

Technology & Always Improving Their Games
Quote
GS: CD Projekt RED seems to believe very strongly in improving its game products. For instance, the Enhanced Edition of the original game added numerous improvements to the base game. What are some additional areas that you're looking to improve in the upcoming sequel?

AB:We believe that we can always improve our products, bringing them closer to the best we can achieve. Even though we have released improvements like the Enhanced Edition, we will still be aiming to make The Witcher 2 as good as possible at release. That's why we've decided to use completely new technology and to redesign many of the game's features.

We cannot talk about many of the new features yet because it's still much too early, but I can say that the new technology will really stand out. We've built a brand new engine for The Witcher 2, with lots of amazing new visual effects--improved day and night cycles, a new dynamic camera, and much more--to present even more impressive graphics. We are also improving a number of gameplay elements, making combat even more exciting and helping players become even more immersed in the gameworld.

Adult Themes
Quote
GS: There were some very interesting and very adult story themes in the original game--betrayal, sexuality, and bigotry. Will these themes be expanded in the sequel? What other themes with the sequel explore?

AB: We want The Witcher 2 to be even more mature, so we'll be placing a lot of focus on the design of the story. Gamers will face a very real and brutal world. The way in which we explore sexuality will be greatly improved, and we'll be putting a lot of work into showing the erotic dimension of life in a more natural way, rather than as a sort of minigame. We'll be using cinematic means to flesh out characters, who will differ from each other as they would in real life. These differences will come through in their behavior, their attitude toward Geralt, and how they react to the world.

Once again, the game won't offer any choices between good and evil. Rather, it will force you to decide what is important to you and whom can you trust. Many times you'll be left with real doubts about the choices you've made because the consequences of your decisions will be unpredictable.

Info from latest CD Projekt conference. (http://polygamia.pl/Polygamia/1,101109,7264926,CDP__Wiedzmin_2_przelomowym_RPGiem__nowy_silnik_w.html#English)

Quote
English version (summary)

We've been to CD Projekt's conference regarding its merger with Optimus. Here are some of the facts we have learned from the conference itself and from speaking to CD Projekt's founders, Michał Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński.

    * According to CD Projekt, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is to be a "breakthrough RPG like Fallout 3" that should get over 90% score at Metacritic
    * The Witcher 2 development team currently consists of ca. 80 people, both from CD Projekt Red and from Metropolis Software, whose FPS titled They is currently "on hold"
    * The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, the console port of the first game, is not canceled but suspended, and will likely be made after all. This time with the use of CD Projekt's own technology, not an engine outsourced from a third party. However, it might not happen until after the second game is finished.
    *  The Witcher 2 uses CD Projekt's internal, multi-platform engine, which is focused not only on the renderer and physics, but on non-linear quest design. CD Projekt founders believe that it will be in the vanguard among game engines, and especially RPG engines.
    * The company is in talks with publishers, although they did not specify how advanced the talks are. The publisher will most likely be announced in Q1 2010. They do not want a big publisher like EA, but someone they cooperate with as partners. They want the game to be published in identical form in all countries, with rich bonus content, like the Enhanced Edition of the first Witcher.
    * Despite some reports, the presentation of The Witcher 2 at Igromir in Russia was a closed show for potential business partners, and the game was not presented publicly.
    * They do not plan to sell new titles through Good Old Games in addition to classics, as the site would lose its uniqueness. Most publishers would also be reluctant to release new titles without DRM, and lack of DRM is one of the main principles of the site.
    * One of the 3 biggest game publishers will add their games to the GOG catalogue early next year.
    * Local versions of GOG might be created in the future, with localized versions of the games.
    * The merger with Optimus will give the company new opportunities for development, although if not for the crisis, CD Projekt would probably enter the stock market on their own.

VG247.com interviews the Senior Producer on The Witcher 2, Tomek Kop of CD Projekt. (http://www.vg247.com/2010/03/31/interview-the-witcher-2s-tomek-gop-senior-producer/)

Witcher 2's Brand New Game Engine
Quote
VG247: Tell us a bit about the updated engine? What technological limitations did you come across the last time out, and how did you push through those with Witcher 2?

Tomek Gop: The Witcher 2 works on brand new engine created by CD Projekt RED, so it is not updated version of Aurora.

Previous technology limitations were mostly connected with the RPG core of the game. Dialogues, cutscenes, character interactions, scripting the storyline and so on. We’ve removed a lot of limitations, some of which were pretty obvious (the infamous obstacles you couldn’t leap over), and some closer to the production pipeline. Lots of things are now easier for designers, animators and artists to do without programmers’ help.

That’s one of the reasons the game looks so good a year before release. In one word, rewriting the engine was a mainly RPG-related challenge for us.

DLC Possibilities
Quote
VG247: Any plans for future downloadable content like adventure packs? What about a demo? Any plans for one? If so, will one come to consoles?

Tomek Gop: As for DLC nothing has been announced again, but we’re definitely thinking about this one. A lot of ideas, and new possibilities with the new tech. We’d like to make sure we do the game first though.

Geralt's Affairs
Quote
VG247: Geralt is pretty much the Captain Kirk of the medieval world. Will he have just as many female conquests this time around or will he decide to settle down with one gal?

Tomek Gop: What Would Kirk Do? Geralt has always been sort of womanizer, so you might expect relations this time as well. It was important for us to rethink and redesign the presentational aspect of sex, nudity and romance in The Witcher 2. We focused on this being more bound to the story, and less “collectible”.

You could expect that this time sex means actually two people getting close to each other.

So, this is next year right?  In North America as well?

I reinstalled The Witcher, started to play it again and then all of a sudden realized I couldn't do it...as much as I like the game I just don't have the ambition to play through it again and tread old ground.  A new one though?  I'd be all over that.

And yeah, they need a new engine - they've pushed this one to the max.  I did,  however finally figure out how to get cut scenes and dialogue scenes to display correctly at 16:10; you can't.  Engine limitation that they still have not officially recognized, but it's been pretty much confirmed that they won't be displayed correctly at that aspect ratio on ANY hardware. The answer? 16:9.  For me, this meant manually editing the drivers before installing them so that 1664*936 is a forced display option for Windows and all games.

All that and I just uninstalled the game after...damn.

Witcher 2 interview w/ Tomasz Gop of CD Project. (http://witchervault.ign.com/View.php?view=Editorials.Detail&id=4)

Witcher 2's SDK
Quote
Witcher Vault: We have already heard rumours that new SDK for the Witcher 2 will be a lot better than D’Jinni, is that true?

Tomasz Gop: Oh no doubt about it! At least for us – we wanted to write an engine from scratch, so our tools are our own. It allows us to add something, or change something, in any way we want to. For instance, designers can do a lot more stuff without the programmers’ aid, which, thinking logically, will translate similarly into the realm of community-made things.

W2 will have more of an open-world to it
Quote
Witcher Vault: All right, then what about open-world locations? There’s been quite a few such places in W1, but overall the world felt just a bit too hermetically sealed…

Tomasz Gop: Locations in W2 are much larger than in W1. At the same time, there’s a huge difference here; where in one Act you had to travel between several locations in W1, for example, Act 4 required travel between several places, in W2 you get one huge location for each Act. The interiors are dynamically streamed as well.

Not Too Many Load Times
Quote
Witcher Vault: So, this will more or less look like we’d have Vizima’s Temple and Trade quarters hooked up together with no transition?

Tomasz Gop: Yes, this might be a good example. But size aside, we’ve also streamlined the loading process. You might not see a single loading screen throughout a whole Act in Witcher 2!

Combat
Quote
Witcher Vault: Continuing in the ‘comparison’ vein, can you tell us something about combat? We’ve seen the examples during your gameplay session, and – to be frank – it wasn’t actually more dynamic to the viewer. However, from what you describe, the system is much more dynamic. Can you explain?

Tomasz Gop: Well, right now you’ve seen a dev playing. There’re two significant changes here, first of all, there’s no hard lock onto a target. Where in W1 you were forced to attack a selected target – which needed to be reselected, if you had to switch to the next one – now you can simply change the direction of your attacks, and they will find the next opponent even mid-hit, without losing the pace. Another new thing is the ability to mix fighting styles ad hoc, without any penalty or losing your progression. And, to that point, there’s no fixed combo sequences now – you build your attacks by yourself, mixing and matching for better result. You can even use Signs during ‘clicking’ with no detriment to the melee.

Witcher Vault: So is seemingly slower-paced combat a result of lower level of the character shown in the presentation, or maybe something else?

Tomasz Gop: We don’t want to show everything at once. To be honest, we were focusing more on the plot, dialogue system, cutscenes integration into the game during this presentation, more so than on the combat. It’s also worth mentioning that combat in the Witcher has never been a very big part of the game – at least, not considering the RPG aspect. In fact, we wanted to make combat in W2 more ‘witchery’, more tactical, more tuned to the character development. That said, we wanted to give player a choice: whether he/she wants to fight more with the aid of alchemy, or maybe solely focusing on the swordfight. There’s even more interactivity here – since wilderness here is a true ecosystem, you can perform truly ‘witchery’ stuff, not just tied to your knowledge of how to defeat the monsters. For example, you can catch a beast, pump it full of some substance, then let it go. Then, you follow it on its chemical trail to its lair, and destroy the whole lair of the monsters. This, in particular, is something that we haven’t done in Witcher 1.

...

Witcher Vault: Going back to actual combat, what of the active blocking? We’ve seen Geralt put his sword up in a sort of a ‘riposte-ready’ stance…

Tomasz Gop: There’s going to be active block. We want to make it so that you can use this blocking tactically – to wait until you see an opening, and then strike to see it work.

Multiple Endings
Quote
Witcher Vault: Since you can do that and you can change the way Acts pan out, can you also have different endings?

Tomasz Gop: Oh yes, definitely. There’s going to be a lot more possible endings in the Witcher 2. Not just one or two more, a LOT more. I can’t divulge how many there’ll be just yet, but I can already tell you that some of the endings will not entirely depend on your dialogue choices… there’s a lot more factors at play here, including seemingly random elements. Aside from that, your companions will influence the plot as well – and you will get to have a companion around you.

New dev diary on TW2. (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/55136/The-Witcher-2-Assassins-Of-Kings-Dev-Diary-Vid-Reveals-Witcher-1-Save-Game-Transfer-Feature)

Things worth noting:
--> You will be able to import your save from Witcher 1 into Witcher 2.
--> MAIN story is shorter than the original game
--> Though the game itself maybe bigger b/c of side quests and the bigger open game-world to explore.
--> Less quests of running around and delivering items to people.
--> More vast number of characters in Witcher 2
--> You do not control nor level-up companions in TW2 like say your typical Bioware game
--> Many dialogue sequences, you have all the time in the world to make a decision
--> A few dialogue sequences, a decision must be made in seconds...

EDIT:
CD Projekt responds to Namco's comments on UbiSoft DRM and reassures Witcher 2 fans that Witcher 2 DRM will be "Nothing to worry about." (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64054)

From The Faceoffgames.com interview. (http://www.faceoffgames.com/section/1164240)
About Importing Saved Games from TW1 into TW2...
Quote
F.O.G: We've been told that the Witcher 2 will feature a save game importer - just how much of an impact will our decisions from the first game have?

TG: It's mainly about decisions actually. You will be able to import parts of your inventory (e.g. swords - though its yet to be decided), but the main reason for implementing the save import feature is the storyline. For most of the crucial choices the player took throughout The Witcher there will be something that will represents the outcome of their decisions. Oh and of course you don't need to have played The Witcher to be able to start the second game. There's a beginning for all those not importing a saved game.

The retail collectors edition is nice, but its $130. Not sure what goodies might be in the regular retail.

Its going to be interesting to see if they sell more on GoG or on Steam. All Steam nets you is achievements (yawn) and cloud saving. GoG gets you a bunch of extra goodies, and DRM free. Plus for people not in the US:
Quote
Since the EU price is almost $16 more than the price in USD, we’re giving our EU customers a $16 credit to purchase anything on GOG.com.
Thats a definite leg up. They can't alter the price in different regions because of the deals made with publishers, so they are giving you the price difference back in store credit. Thats badass.

Depends on how the engine was optimized. The original was a heavily modified NWN engine, wasnt it? Sometimes theres only so much you can do. But with a new engine from scratch you can make some nice optimizations.

Could be lies, but who knows.

They didn't really like some of the limitations of using Aurora, so they went for a new engine this time around.

I'd love to know details as to what those low system requirements would have for settings - you know, what res' it runs at (hopefully at least 1024x768) and overall settings (Low, Medium, High, etc).

Depends on how the engine was optimized. The original was a heavily modified NWN engine, wasnt it? Sometimes theres only so much you can do. But with a new engine from scratch you can make some nice optimizations.

Could be lies, but who knows.

Yup you are correct.

But aside from that, I realized that those are supposed to be the "minimum requirements".

But aside from that, I realized that those are supposed to be the "minimum requirements".

I really don't like how when they mention the min. and recommended system specs, they do NOT put info of also what Resolution (800x600, 1024x768, etc) and Overall Graphics Settings the game will run on (Low, Medium, High, Ultra, etc).

If these are your guidelines for system requirements, I'd like to know what settings this is supposed to be on.

Eurogamer -> Insane Difficulty Mode Revealed. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-17-witcher-2s-insane-difficulty-revealed)

4 difficulties:
-> Easy, Medium, Hard, Insane.

On Insane:
-> You die, your saves get disabled
-> Might be resurrection scroll as DLC to bring back any disabled Insane mode saves
-> When running away, monsters will have extra special skill enabled so they catch-up to you
i.e. Undead monsters can dig into ground and then come up from underneath the ground right in front of you

Importing Saves from TW1 into TW2:
-> Certain decisions you made from TW1 will carry over into TW2
-> Certain equipment (armor, weapon) from TW1 will carry over into TW2
-> Money does NOT carry over

When starting clean with only TW2:
-> They are thinking of having for TW2 a built-in TW1 story generator at the TW2 game-start where you decide what happened in some of TW1's events (i.e. what ME2: PS3 Version does).

3 page preview on IGN. (http://pc.ign.com/articles/114/1146395p1.html)

"Signs"
Quote
During battles, players won't be afforded the luxury of pausing the game whenever they want to cast a Sign. Instead, the game slows down, giving you a brief period of respite, but also a system that ensures that you have to make your choice quickly.

Talking of Signs, a new, sixth magical sign has been added to the combat mix, although the team wasn't ready to go into detail about it at this stage. On top of that, we can expect "tons of gameplay-oriented skills" to be added, which we'll be able to report in-depth on when CD Projekt is ready to let us get our grubby mitts on its new baby.

Console Version Planned
Quote
'But what about a console version' I hear you cry. Well, the news is definitely good, despite the depressing failure of the original version to make it to the 360 or PS3. "It's the first console project we would like to do," Bartkowicz confirms. "We need to do it in house. In the end we decided not to do it outsourced. We've been running some tests, and putting a small part of the game just to make sure we're not cheating anyone. We can show it to you, it is possible."

Sadly, we ran out of time to see it for our own eyes, but the fact that CD Projekt is happy to go on the record and say that it's happening is good news. In fact, the game's eventual transition to console has been planned from day one. "You can play The Witcher 2 with joypad - it's implemented. The whole interface is designed with console in mind, in fact."

Escapist -> On The Overhauled Combat System. (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108699-Witcher-2-Combat-Overhauled-But-Not-Dumbed-Down)

Quote
The combat system in The Witcher was unusual to say the least, relying on a mix of styles, weapons and combos, backed up by potions and magical powers. Its hallmark was the rhythmic mouse clicking needed to build combos; good timing would turn you into an unstoppable dervish, whereas with bad timing you were more likely to just poke yourself in the eye.

That system is gone but the "fast" and "heavy" attack styles remain, this time mapped to the left and right mouse buttons to allow for switching between styles on the fly. Geralt will also rely more heavily on signs, the rudimentary system of magic used by Witchers, and will be able charge and aim his magical attacks. Unlike the first game, weapons other than the steel and silver Witcher swords will actually have a use and Geralt will be able to focus his training on weapons other than that traditional pair.

"The combat has absolutely not been dumbed down," Gop said. "Nor has the game been consolized."

Quote
Edge Magazine: Since the first Witcher, which games have had the biggest effect on CD Projekt's direction for The Witcher 2?

Tomasz Gop: We get inspired by many games, obviously, like any game developer. I can't say specifically whether it's Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls or Arkham Asylum that has inspired us most over the past few years – it's probably a mix of all of them. I think everyone will find elements of Demon's Souls, though, definitely. We don't auto-scale opponents, for example. If you want to compare it to anything, Demon's Souls is definitely good. I'd like that, for sure.

I just had a peek in my gmail spam folder and it appears thats where all my Witcher emails have been going. Grr. Anyway, this came through the other day:

Quote
CD Projekt RED has just set the date of its spring conference, which will take place on the 14th of April 2011 in Warsaw, Poland. With the release date of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings right around the corner, it is imperative for every fan of our series to be the witness of this event as it will provide you with a lot of useful information about the upcoming game.

The event will cover following topics:

- Minimum and recommended system requirements, as well as their effect on game's performance,

- Differences in specific language versions and censorship,

- Copy protection will be talked about in greater detail,

- Importing save-game data from the first part of The Witcher,

- REDengine details,

- And many more.

There is also a rumor that our friends at GOG.com might have prepared something very special for that day (not only in regards to The Witcher 2;). You should probably visit their website frequently to find out more.

The English part of the conference will be broadcasted live at facebook.com/thewitcher and the game's official website, www.thewitcher.com. The broadcast will start at 4:00 PM (GMT), make sure to tune in.
I'm interested to hear about the censorship, because I can see that being an issue in the US (http://www.eurogamer.cz/articles/zaklinac-2-fotoserial). Also the copy protection. I know GoG will be DRM free so if it comes down to it I'll get it there, but I would prefer a retail copy. If retail uses Steamworks or something then I'll bite the bullet and download from GoG. Head to a library and leech my ass off.

Looks like retail and such are going to use SecuROM, one time internet activation. They said its just to prevent day 1 piracy, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it patched out fairly quickly. I imagine its just the disc check version like Fallout 3 and Borderlands used.

And there will be no censorship in any region. How awesome is that?

Already talking about free DLC for registering, plus downloadable language packs.

Plus, if you go w/ GOG - you get NO DRM period, you get a FREE PDF Art Book, extra Soundtrack Music, and select a free GOG-sold RPG Game from their list.

If you have some way of backing your installers up [most have this, I'd say] and a good Internet connection, I think GOG version's the way to go.

I really love CDP - these guys seem to get it, when it comes to making their fans happy w/ nice extras and features.

FAQ PDF! (http://www.thewitcher.com/images/newsletter/TW2_FAQ_April2011.pdf)
Quote
WHAT DRM WILL THE WITCHER 2 HAVE?

The primary reason for including copy protection with internet activation is to address the biggest concern of our publishing and distribution partners, which is potential piracy before release. To do so, we must implement at least a minimal form of protection.

The Witcher 2 will be delivered to external manufacturing plants weeks before release. It is virtually impossible to guarantee absolute security for this entire time. Any leak of the code can gravely compromise the commercialization of the game, and we want to be sure that the first people to play it will be the fans and customers who are waiting for their official copies.

That’s why, together with our publishing and distributing partners, we decided to use copy protection. The Digital Premium Edition available from GOG.com will be the sole exception. Since it is our sister company, located in the same building, we are completely confident the code will be absolutely secure.

As a company and also as gamers ourselves, we’d like to stress that we are against any kind of copy protection that might affect the game experience or limit the usability of legally purchased copies. For this reason, we decided to implement a custom version that is the lightest and least intrusive possible. During installation, it will be necessary to connect to the Internet one time – but NEVER while playing. Similarly, the only time you need to have the disks in your drive is during installation.

While we are aware of some players’ associations with the SecuROM technology, the server infrastructure of its provider, SONY, gives us the highest level of confidence that registering legal copies will be problem-free. Every legal copy can be played on up to five machines at a time. What’s more, registrations can be revoked at any time; in effect, The Witcher 2 can be installed on unlimited number of machines. It will also be possible to make backups. Furthermore, we will make every effort to cooperate with our publishing and distribution partners to remove the DRM in a postrelease update.

WHY SHOULD I REGISTER MY COPY?
Registration of legally purchased copies is completely optional. To make the process as user-friendly as possible, the same key is used for both installation and registration.

Anyone who chooses to register will receive various bonuses (English and Polish language packs, free future DLC and more), and additional promotional materials such as bonus songs.

Registered users will also receive automatic notifications of updates via the game launcher. In addition, this will be the only way to update the product – patches will not be available as separate files, making it impossible to update illegal copies of the game in this manner.

WHY AND HOW SHOULD I USE MY SAVEGAMES FROM THE WITCHER?
The Witcher 2 will provide a complete story and game experience. It is not necessary to have played the original. As a bonus, those who did will have the option of importing their saved games. The opening of The Witcher 2 is, however, the same for everyone. Events and decisions from imported saves may be reflected later on, but only in ways that can happen anyway.

If The Witcher is still installed on your hard drive, The Witcher 2 will automatically detect all saves after the last critical choice point, and either suggest the file to import, or allow you to choose from all the possible ones.

Note: The preview build sent at the beginning of April 2011 did not include the full save game
system. The release version will let players save at any time PC gamers expect.

WHAT KIND OF PERFORMANCE AND HARDWARE ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?
The Witcher 2 is being developed for one platform, the PC. What this basically means, especially
together with our proprietary REDengine, is that we take advantage of the most advanced performance hardware. Our game doesn’t compromise its performance, gameplay, the interface or anything else to accommodate other platforms.

The REDengine is built so players with two-core processors and min-spec machines will receive a fully enjoyable experience. Even more importantly, anyone with the recommended 4 cores and/or hyperthreading will see a visible improvement. 6 cores? 8? Cool! The Witcher 2 will make good use of them all. The game will also scale exceptionally well. It has not only low, medium and high graphical settings, but also an ultra detail level… and even an “uber sampling” mode.

Note: The release version of the game will have an advanced graphical settings menu. It will also support the 16:9 aspect ratio and be playable in 16:10 (non-native) as well as 4:3 (letterbox).

WILL THERE BE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE WITCHER 2?
The Witcher 2 will have the same content worldwide. There will be no regional differences aside from the languages. And no censored versions – so no wondering about importing the game, nudity patches, etc.

Hands down, if The Witcher 2 wins no other award this year it certainly stands out as being the best looking RPG available. Characters are incredibly detailed, forests are lush and overgrown, rain punishes the ground, and that castle siege at the start had me just standing admiring it for a few minutes. Seeing the huge trebuchets properly in motion, launching rocks that smash into the castle’s walls from a good distance, is utterly awe-inspiring. And that’s only after ten minutes of game time!

Looks like CDP is taking some notes from PB's Gothic series and Risen series w/ the whole immersive "living breathing world and community" thing and doing some of their own evolution on it.

I'm betting - especially since Skyrim is also going for this - this might become even more commonplace in RPG games.

Great trailer, BTW.

You downloaded ~9GB in 1 hour?! Dude, that's phenomenal!

It took nearly 2 hours for me and I have a 30Mbit connection. Either way, it's sitting ready to pounce on release.

I noticed the download was just shy of the complete size by about 100MB, with a segment of the download bar in purple; I think that might be some stuff they reserved for zero-day.

Oh, I also grabbed the free game! I went for Beyond Divinity since I already had Divine Divinity.

9 GB in 1 hr = 2684354.56 bytes per second.  2.5 MB/sec = 20 mbps.  Sorry, I was bored.
My connection was fluctuating but it did indeed average ~2.5MB/sec.

I did some math and it would take me ~30 days, 24 hours a day with no breaks, to download 9GB.

So yeah, disc copy. Even though I would love to support GoG and get a DRM-free copy.

Time to look into property in Finland!

Regarding download speeds, I've been playing with Steam's download server regions and apparently when I select my actual region (Middle East) I get crap download speed. So far the optimum choice is Singapore, giving me an effective 1-2MB/s.

@Idol
Got any friends that got a fast as Hell cable modem connection that ain't far from your house who'll let you sign into your GOG account on their PC and DL it?
Then, you could cut the game to disc(s)...

It's around 9.7 GB in total, BTW.
I'm just waiting for Monday or Tuesday, when they release the rest of the files.

I could probably go to the library one day and download the whole thing with my netbook, but I'm going to wait for the game to be a bit cheaper anyway so its not like I'm in a rush to buy it. Besides, I'm going to finish the original game first before diving into the sequel.

I ended up pre-purchasing this from Steam, so there's no way I'll be able to finish the first game again before diving into it.  On one hand, a total shame because I have no idea where my original cleared save is (deleted in a reformat?).  On the other, it was starting to feel a bit like a chore.  I'll probably just read a plot recap or something.

The Witcher 2 is pretty impressive. Some performance/framerate issues but switched to 720p and it's ok. Had to send word. Going back now.

Looks like from what I'm reading, the game performs better on those newer NVidia Beta drivers.
Also, the game has issues currently w/ those extra 3D Nvidia Stereoscoptic drivers installed - worth noting.

Game's running fine and dandy here on High.
Forget Ultra - it's bloody murder.

The control remapping is absolute garbage. Haven't PC game designers learned from this elsewhere? Let me put the keys where I want them.
I cannot move and controls to Mini-NumPad on the right of the keyboard for HotKeys for switching say b/t Swords and all of that other "Gameplay" section stuff already mapped on top row from 1-9.
Also, I cannot map the cursor keys (Up, Down, Left, Right Cursors) for Movement.
I preferred in Witcher 1 where we had the option to have BOTH Primary and Secondary keys for each command. TW2 only has 1 key for command allowed.

EDIT:
You cannot fiddle w/ game settings - graphics and controls - within the game. It's done outside of the game in the launcher.

EDIT #2 - 5-18-2011:
Also worth noting - the X360 controller plays fine w/ this game, if you ain't fond of the KB/mouse controls not being able to be configured to your liking 100%.
They might as well port this to the consoles, since it looks like the controls are set-up for this already.

Also, the Main Menu when you hit Start is different on the 360 controller than when you hit ESC on the Keyboard.

The X360 pad controls are passable but it's very clear the game was made for mouse+kb. This is especially obvious in the inventory, when you're walking around the camera is completely manual (made for mouse), and even during combat since there's no lock-on at all you have to manually aim the camera at your target when the directional buttons aren't working quite as planned.

I prefer the Inventory on the KB/mouse, yes.

On the other hand, the controls have NO STRAFING keys at all - which "No strafe" is usually more often found in console-style action games, when you have multiple enemies on you. It's easier to go from enemy-to-enemy on a swing like this. This usually works better on games w/ a gamepad.

Two Worlds 2 did something interesting - to strafe, you have to hold Block and hit your direction of movement.

EDIT:
First patch coming for TW2 next week - with remapping allowed, mouse inversion, and other fixes/changes. (http://www.en.thewitcher.com/community/entry/19/)

Yeah, same here. It takes a bit of getting used to.. I have a hard time acknowledging when I'm actually getting hit, it's like the feedback is minimal. Sure the screen gets a reddish tint but there's no sense that I'm taking a hit, maybe a lack of sound or animation. To be honest, that was the same complaint I had about the original game.

The combat in The Witcher 2 feels like the combat in Gothic 3, which is not impressive, at least in G3 you could lock on to an enemy.

I will give W2 some credit on the realism though: if you're being attacked by a mob the odds are clearly stacked against you; you have to be extremely good to win! It's not like in Jade Empire or Fable where I can easily dodge and bounce around seamlessly between the attackers. In W2 I have to use appropriate tactics for each enemy type, time my attacks and retreats carefully, fixate my attacks on one enemy at a time, manage my vigour (used up for blocking and Signs), and be able to quickly change tactics as necessary. It's certainly not monotonous.

EDIT:
Here's a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnF72P8i5WM) from Koroush Ghazi (author of TweakGuides.com) showing off the game at at maximum setting (minus Ubersampling). Dare to watch it at full 1080p!

I think the lack of strafing is one of my pet peeves w/ the combat of TW2 game.
Two Worlds 2 has strafing, when you are blocking.

It just feels like EASY is TOO easy, while NORMAL feels TOO HARD. There's no real middle ground here.

I also prefer that I could chug potion in TW1....well, whenever I feel like it.
In TW2, you have to find a spot you can Meditate in and then you actually can chug a potion.
Problem is - unless you often die in a battle and reload last save, you don't really know what potion you should chug and when.

Not enough here, unfortunately. Since I am left-handed, once I can re-map my keys to both cursor keys AND number-pad like most modern day PC games allow (except probably Dead Space 1 PC), maybe I'll dive back into this...
I thought the 360 controller would solve the problem, at least for now...well, I was wrong. The combat's fine on the 360 pad, but the Inventory controls SUCK on the 360 pad.
Another solution would be for CDP allowing BOTH 360 pad and KB+mouse be allowed to be enabled at the same time.

But, really - I should be able to delete saves, quickload, change graphics settings, and change control settings to my liking IN-GAME, not in some launcher outside of the game before I even boot the game up...

I'm glad to hear that. Annoying issues can be patched out. A bad game can't.
It's just that the stupidities surrounding around it ruin the enjoyment I should be having w/ this game - which probably the main ones can and will be fixed.

I think that was their 0-day security. Basically no one had a complete copy of the game until the official release date.

I feel for ya, D. I'd be pretty mad if I couldn't configure some basic controls to my liking. I find the game works reasonably well with the gamepad, and there's not much to do in the inventory screen anyway; instead of clicking and dragging items you'll have to settle for the "highlight, push A to use/remove" style.

Sweet, thanks for the tip.

I'm getting the hang of the combat. I've also noticed that it gets better (and makes more sense) with upgrades, for example the Whirl ability allows you to hit multiple targets with a each swing, so no more zero-damage animation clipping.

I'm also really glad I went for the GOG.com purchase since it's a hassle-free installation, especially after reading about some of the other versions' installation issues or CD key misprints.

Same here...even though I wish some of my complaints were fixed.
The controls is the biggie for me right now - and that'll probably be taken care of w/ their next patch.

EDIT:
Okay, so I'm trying to get used to the 360 pad here. Looks like Quen skill is the most useful skill in this game, as suddenly when using this skill, combat seems to be getting A LOT easier. It's still challenging, but at least now I'm not always getting pounced here.

EDIT #2:
BTW, This Kayran Battle...this is ridiculous. And the QTE at the end...ugh.
I'm gonna have to come back to this later. This can get frustrating...
Title: Re: The Witcher 2

I think I'm the only one who seems to find the QTEs easy.. I actually enjoy them too! :D I have the "Difficult QTEs" option activated as well. I don't get why most people are having trouble with them.

EDIT:
Quen is pretty handy since it absorbs damage, it depends on the fight that I justify its use. So far one of the most useful signs for me is Yrden; particularly helpful with mobs since it slows them down and helps me pick them off one by one. It seems to be instrumental in most boss fights so far.

Yet, by the time the game ends, you'll be cleaving through enemies like butter. If you spam your shield spell and unlock finishing moves, regular fights go from almost impossible to an insulting joke. It seems CD Projekt couldn't strike the right balance between character development and challenge, so just didn't bother. This is evidenced in the boss fights, which often rely on guesswork in order to beat, as players figure out the one convoluted, obscure strategy required in order to win. There's no challenge in that, it's just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks.
I haven't seen all of the boss fights, but I don't think the Kayran was convoluted at all.
A lot of it was TOLD to you by Sile and then hinted at numerous times in front of your face by what happens.
Just...you had to get the timing and everything down correctly, more so than anything.

The game is probably too hard on normal and too easy on easy. *shrug*
A happy medium would be nice.

Having played the first game, I have to admit it took a bit to get used to The Witcher 2 and some of its new mechanics. The combat is probably the most significant change, but even the main interaction method changes the game for me.

I definitely feel more in control of Geralt in W2 since they've eliminated the point & click control scheme completely, opting for direct control of Geralt; much like the 3rd-person camera mode in the original, except even the crosshair has been eliminated as well. The interaction is context-sensitive now, kinda like Fable, and highlighting is automatic based on view angle and proximity.

I didn't like the combat at first but now that I have a better handle on it I'm enjoying it a lot more. It's all about timing!

I still wish there was strafing and all, but the combat here w/ the 360 controller feels more like say Batman: AA or Two Worlds 2. Once you get going and used to it, you can EASILY just turn and slice-and-dice from enemy-to-enemy w/ a direction push and a button-tap.

You're right, though - it's all about timing. And using like crazy Quen to shield-up.

One thing that really made me scratch my head at times here and there in recent Bioware games like Dragon Age 2 and the ME games was the truncated dialogue options didn't come close to like what the character actually says or does for that choice. Often, in DA2 or ME games, you'd select an option - and the dialogue or action didn't even sound or even act like what your choice is. TW2 so far does a much better job of this, as often the truncated line is actually in there, but actually is even further expanded upon - that's the way it should be done, if it's gonna be done.

There sort of is strafing.. I mean, when you use you move right or left Geralt runs perpendicular to the camera's angle, he doesn't pivot or rotate; m+kb or gamepad it's the same. It is a lot like beat 'em ups (i.e. Arkham Asylum, God of War) in that regard. Since there's no aiming involved (for the most part) and no lock-on there's no real need to move sideways while facing your opponent.

At first I kept dreading that there was no option to lock-on to a single enemy, however I later realized that most of the combat involves mobs and you need to be free enough to quickly switch between enemies or attack many t the same time when you unlock the whirl ability. Eventually, as you get used to it and upgrade your skills, the combat starts to look like a choreographed sequence with Geralt dancing through his foes.

Admittedly, the game does demand a lot from the player since you have to figure out most of the stuff on your own. You will find your own fighting style and tactics that work for you. It is brilliantly designed to make the player work for it, at first anyway. I can't even count the number of times I died in the prologue! By the time I reached the second chapter I had become much more aware of the combat.

Probably halfway through Chapter 2 and combat is a lot easier.  This is probably due to a combination of better equipment,  slightly better stats/skills, and the understanding that I have to use potions/oils/bombs far more than the first game.  Also, striking from the back makes a huge difference.

New pet peeve:  weight limit.  Come on.  It's not like there's actual loot in this game, I don't see a real reason to limit your inventory, especially when there's no where to store all your crafting goods.

Oh God, the weight limit is starting to get annoying! I wound up having to sell off a good chunk of ingredients and crafting materials. I really wish there was a storage locker or something.

I find that I rarely use alchemy this time around.. Every once in a while I might use a Swallow potion before a major fight but I rely a lot more on dodging and not getting hit at all.

Yeah, it's mainly the bombs and oils.....which I almost never used in the first game.  Potions:  not so hot - many have too drastic of downsides (save for Swallow and Cat, really).  Also, I don't think there's Blizzard this time around.

But yeah, seriously....the fucking weight limit.  And it's all ingredients...no extra armour or weapons. So, it's like a thousand teeth from some monster add up and I have to search through my entire inventory to figure out what to dump (and it's usually spread out among a shit load of different things) and then make the hard decision of which I MAY NOT need.

Come to think of it, there are no sorting options other than the type lists.. I'd like to be able to sort by weight, alphabetically, etc. As it is I have to scroll down the "ALL" list and keep an eye on the weight number. It's not a great inventory system although it is leaps ahead of the one in the original.

Every so often I'll scavenge and bear with extra weight until I reach a merchant.. It can be a long walk sometimes!

Anyway, I have noticed some surprising moments in the game, particularly with the dialogue. I've happened across a few moments with bad dialogue only to realize that it was intentionally bad when the speaker gets corrected by another character! Even the little things that bring life to a conversation (potential spoiler):

It's a small thing but these little exchanges make the characters feel real.

A LOT of Info on upcoming Patch 1.1. (http://www.en.thewitcher.com/community/entry/30/)

Quote
May 25, 2011, 2:53 p.m.

Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening. Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. This is our primary concern since there are significant changes and upgrades that will affect many users.

1. Simpler and more reliable game installation and activation. Details to be revealed soon.

2. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included n the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

3. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

4. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

5. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

6. Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement.

7. Added the option to invert the mouse.

8. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

9. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

10. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

11. Fixed a bug that prevented the additional link in "Extras" from being unlocked after winning the dice game against the GOG.com monk.

12. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The full list of all changes will be available upon the release of the patch. If you have experienced any issues that are not on the list above, please don't worry. We have already started working on the next patch, which will address other difficulties and bugs, including those related to specific hardware setups; e.g.. Logitech g35. You may expect this second patch to be ready next week.

Patch 1.1 will be available for all the versions of the game, both retail and digital, except for Russian.  However, we would like to assure our Russian fans that we are aware of the problems with the your version of the game (thanks for your reports!) and we are talking with 1C about possible solutions.

The good news is that the patch is ready. The bad news is that we have encountered some problems with the server infrastructure, making downloading DLCs impossible. We want to apologize to our fans for not meeting our target of delivering the patch last night. We will update you when we know more.

Don't care much about the DLC right now, just want the patch. They can patch in the DLC later! hehe

Yeah, they should do some DLC to allow us to STORE stuff in a house filled w/ a bunch of CHESTS.
Seriously - this game has so much stuff you can pick up - and since there's a crafting system, you can put a lot of this junk to use.

Cool, I have to download the GOG.com-specific patch ;)

It's too bad that the ENTIRE NumPad can't be remapped to the KB controls, even though this patch was supposed to fix that.
There's A LOT of keys the can't STILL be allowed for remapping purposes. (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/keyboard_remapping_issues/post81)

I hear this patch sucks for Steam users. Apparently it wants to download 9GB instead of the 9-15MB the actual patch is. Seems to be an issue with how Steam works. Witcher 2 has a 9GB archive file that holds most of the games data and the patch goes in and modifies files within it, but all Steam sees is that this archive has changed so it has to redownload it in its entirety.

I'll test that out.

On the bright side I'm seeing a huge increase in performance!

Also, according to the PC Gamer Tweak Guide, they recommended leaving SSAO on to get more frames per sec!! That must be a typo because SSAO robs me of a good chunk of frames! If I switch it off I easily get another 5-10fps! Either way Ambient Occlusion of all sorts is performance heavy so I'm not sure why they'd recommend leaving it on.

I had no problems w/ the 360 controller w/ the right stick, actually w/ Patch 1.1.... *shrug*

I'm still sticking w/ the KB/mouse, since they fixed it enough for me to stick w/ that. I'd really like for them to make especially the NumPad mappable - along w/ many of the other keys - i.e. bracket keys, delete key, semi-colon, slash, backslash, period, apostrophe, dash key, plus key, etc etc.

Game: playthrough 1 complete.

Fun factor: maximum.

Replay: already started a new game.

It was awesome. A great story in an engrossing world. Admittedly it is shorter than the its predecessor but it is more intense.

Now that I've got a hang of the controls and combat I wonder how I'll fair in the prologue.

Yeah, that was a bit of a let-down. Still, the rest of the content made the game a gem.

Admittedly, The Witcher 1 was a longer game with a lot more stuff going on but The Witcher 2 felt a bit more refined and focused on one plot (albeit with a load of hints at some overarching stories). I found myself way more interested in uncovering Geralt's past, his relationship with Yennefer, and what happened to her.

Joystiq -> Namco Bandai suing over European publishing rights for The Witcher 2 and DRM removal in PC version. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/namco-bandai-files-suit-over-witcher-2s-european-publishing/)

Quote
Okay, this is going to get confusing. Namco Bandai is suing Optimus SA, parent company of CD Projekt Red, over the European console publishing rights for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. It claims that Optimus failed to meet its commitment with Namco Bandai when it gave THQ the rights to distribute the Xbox version of the game in some parts of Europe.

What does Namco Bandai have to do with The Witcher? Namco Bandai actually owns the European distribution business of Atari (who will publish the console release in North America, and who published the PC version in Europe), after purchasing it in 2009. For its part, Optimus says that it only signed a distribution deal with N amco for the PC version, and had its choice of distributor for the console release.

In addition, Namco Bandai claims CD Projekt Red violated its agreement when it spontaneously removed DRM from all versions of The Witcher 2. As a result, Namco is withholding payment of around €1.255 million ($1.8 million) -- a threat to which Optimus president Adam Kicinski blithely responded (as translated by Google): "Our liquidity situation is very good. Therefore, the lack of a few million does not have any leverage on current activities. Withholding of payments means only that for some time, our partner will have to give us the money with interest."

He added that he was confident the case would be settled before it went to court -- or, if not, Optimus will win the case "and then the loser will pay for our lawyers."

Wow.

I really love CDP, they seem to go out their way to implement things the fans really want for free - i.e. fixing KB/mouse controls controls, adding free DLC, adding storage, etc.
Wish more companies were like that.

At the end of the most recent video put on the official The Witcher website (http://thewitcher.com/the-witcher/2/videos/trailers/), the music video of Forgotten Land by Polish band Riverside, which contains game footage, the folks at CD Projekt RED tease a "new & improved PC version 2.0" for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and direct us to this year's GamesCom for more information, which is held from August 17th to 21st, meaning we should get more information soon.

This is probably the "as-yet-unannounced update to the PC version of the game (http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/104086-the-witcher-2-xbox-360-version-delayed.html)" which is supposed to contain a major DLC for CD Projekt's critically acclaimed action-RPG.

Version 2.0 coming to PC on Sept 29th and will also come equipped w/ the 360 version [when that ships]. (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/17/witcher-2-version-2-0-arriving-september-29-included-in-xbox-36/)

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be upgraded to version 2.0 on PC with an automatic update on September 29, CD Projekt revealed today at Gamescom. The free enhancements include a new tutorial system to train players on the game's mechanics, hopefully sparing the frustration of dying 18 times in the first 20 minutes of the game.

It will also add a "Dark Mode" difficulty, which is like Insane Mode but allows saving.

There will also be a new "Arena Mode," an arcade-style survival mode that has you hacking and slashing through wave after wave of ever-more-hearty beasts.

The update throws in 20 new tech enhancements that the devs didn't delve into.

CD Projekt also announced that the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2, scheduled for Q1 2012, will include all the DLC updates to the game, including the 2.0 version.

So I picked this up yesterday.  I've been pushing through the first game the past few weeks and the story has really ramped up for me (after a dreadful time in the swamp, has to be the low point in the game).  Anyhow, I opened it and stuff literally just falls out of it.  This is what PC games used to be like.  All these extras that aren't essential to the core experience, but are nice to have and look through.  I've installed the game, but am holding off on playing it until I get through the first game (which hopefully won't take very much longer).

Even if I end up hating the sequel, which I doubt, I certainly don't mind spending the coin on the off chance that packaging like this makes a return.

For any other game, this would have been sold as a collectors edition and would have likely garnered a 20-30 dollar premium.

GameBanshee -> LOTS more info on upcoming Patch 2.0. (http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/104934-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-20-details.html)

Quote
Adam Badowski, Studio Director commented “We quite modestly called this new update 2.0, but while testing it, we have realized that this update is, actually bigger than Enhanced Edition known from our first game! So this is a major update not only for us, but also for all those who want to start their adventure with the game and for those who would like to play it again.” He added, “We promised to support our game after release and also bring new content for free. Version 2.0 is one of the steps to fulfill our promise.” Isn’t this policy too generous? Adam Badowski replies:  “Around 1 milion units sold worldwide and solid financial results are the best proof that that we have the right approach. You don’t need draconian DRM to have good sales and you don’t need costly DLC to have good financial results. You just need to treat you customers fair, and you get not only financial results, but fans admiration which for us is absolutely priceless!”

The Witcher 2 version 2.0 the most notable gameplay enhancements and features are:

• New Tutorial System – New, more comprehensive tutorial is designed as a separate part of the game and takes place in the Kingdom of Keadwen. New Tutorial System gradually explains  all gameplay mechanics, from very basic to the most sophisticated systems. The Tutorial ensures that start of the game for everyone will be a pleasureable experience without too steep a learning curve.
• Special “Dark” difficulty setting - A new, intensely challenging difficulty setting that provides the ultimate challenge for players. On the “Dark” setting, The Witcher 2 is nearly as difficult as “Insane,” but allows players to save the game. It also provides a completely new set of dark-themed gear with very high stats. “Dark” mode also includes other special elements related to the “dark” theme. This setting is yet another reason to play the game again for those seeking new Witcher challenges.

New items in the “Dark” setting:
3 new sets of dark armor (light, medium, and heavy)
6 new dark swords (3 silver, 3 steel)
Other “Dark” themes/elements in the game…

• Completely new, arcade-style Arena Mode. Infinitely replayable and progressively more challenging, Arena Mode lets you hone your combat style and techniques against all the different opponents from the game as well as a new monster type, the Werewolf. Dispatch wave upon wave of increasingly more difficult enemies, earning awards that you can use to upgrade abilities, weapons and armor, and to test alchemy. Hirelings can also assist you in battle for a price. Combat waves will continue until your character is defeated, when you’ll see a statistical summary of results. Players can share their results with their friends by uploading this summary to the forums or to Facebook.

Arena Mode includes:
New location – forgotten stronghold in the Kingdom of Keadwen
Dynamic, responsive audience reacting to the events
A new monster type, Werewolf
30 different waves of enemies, looped with increasing levels of difficulty
3 different prizes to choose from in each wave
3 new characters (mage, knight, and dwarven fighter) that can serve as allies during clashes
A shopkeeper offering gear and enhancements
3 new GUI panels designed specifically for the mode
New dialogue
New background music
New Witcher Forum and Facebook integration

Each one of the new features was accompanied by live gameplay footage showing them in their full glory, but version 2.0 is not only about new features. There are also more than 40 new technical and gameplay enhancements to be included as well.

Version 2.0 will be available via automatic update to all existing and new users for free on the 29th of September. All versions of the game will update automatically to the 2.0 version, whether bought before or after 29th of September.

Release of the version 2.0 is synchronized with special sales promotions which starts today! Gamers from all over the world will be able to take advantage of this special deal as Steam offers Assassins of Kings for 29.90 Dollars or Euros (depending on your currency) from 22.09.2011 to 06.10.2011. CD Projekt RED sister company GOG.com is not far behind, with their promo starting on the same release day as version 2.0. They will be offering The Witcher 2 for 29.99$ from 29.09.2011 to 06.10.2011. If you haven’t bought the game yet, it’s a great opportunity to buy it now, as The Witcher 2 is definitely not a game to miss.

I haven't uninstalled TW2 - probably won't anytime soon, either.
I'll be looking forward to the patch.
Though, who knows when I'll get to a 2nd run-through of TW2, though.

CDPR on DLC and expansions. (http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/223437/cd-projekt-red-on-dlc-we-dont-like-to-see-gamers-treated-like-dairy-cows/)

Quote
In conversation with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, CD Projekt Red's development director Adam Badowski had some choice words to share regarding DLC and the more restrictive policies Microsoft require its publishers to follow.

"We don't see the idea [of paid DLC] as wrong, but we definitely don't like to see gamers treated like dairy cows that are primed for milking," said Badowski. "All too often, DLC is seen as an additional revenue opportunity. That's not bad in itself -- we're not only in this industry to make games, we're also here to do business. But we shouldn't look at it exclusively from the latter angle, because that sometimes leads to decisions that could leave a bad taste in one's mouth. If you only think about the business in terms of the money it can generate, I think you could come awfully close to forcing players to buy something additional in order to enjoy fully a game they just bought. And that's simply not fair."

Badowski admitted that this isn't always the case, but his team is committed to providing additional content for The Witcher 2 on PC for free. His reasoning behind this is that he believes consumers are well within their rights to expect a developer to continue servicing their product after release, rather than just washing their hands of it.

When the Xbox version of The Witcher 2 launches, however, life may not be so simple. Due to Microsoft policies that need to be followed, Badowski says, free DLC is likely to be out of the question. That said, the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 will incorporate everything from the new version 2.0 update -- itself offering several months worth of DLC packages.

"Any payable DLC that appears [for PC] is likely to be a more classic expansion pack along the lines of, say, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast," added Badowski. "But this is a purely theoretical discussion at this point, as we have yet to confirm or even plan any official expansion packs."

couple questions:

Is there a demo for this game?

Do I need to play The Witcher to understand what's going on in The Witcher 2?

Would it be possible to explain the structure of the game? For reference, I've played a few dozen hours of Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Is it similar? Less open?

I probably shouldn't be looking at another RPG. I'm playing the shit out of Skyrim and still have FO3 and all it's DLC, as well as the original Dragon Age which I haven't touched yet.

No demo that I know of.

Playing Witcher is not necessary.  The tutorial and beginning of the story give you the gist of it.  I haven't played Witcher 1 and never felt compelled to in order to understand what was going on.

It is significantly more closed than Fallout 3 or Skyrim.  I would say it is more KOTOR-esque (if you played that).  You basically go to medium sized quest area with about 40% of quests related to main quest and the rest related to other quests.  Once you finish that area, you move on and cannot go back.  And it's Bioware-esque in that when it ends, it's over.

The combat is frustrating, particularly at first.  Interface is clunky and very non-intuitive.  That said, the graphics and story are fantastic.  Those elements alone make it worth a playthrough, IMO, but I think you'll have to expect a bit of disappointment/frustration along the way.

Just my opinion.  I haven't played since 2.0, so maybe some of these issues have been addressed.

The Witcher was a great game but not necessary to enjoy The Witcher 2, it primarily serves to fill you in on Geralt's history with King Foltest.

TW2 certainly has its interface issues but it's a big improvement over its predecessor. The combat has been tweaked in v2.0, it's a bit more responsive and has better flow overall but it still kinda odd compared to many other melee combat-oriented games. The newly added Arena mode (v2.0) is great practice!

Witcher 2 PC version owners who didn't buy the game from GOG, you can register your game on GOG now. (http://www.gog.com/en/witcher2/backup)
GOG version owners - you don't have to do above said step. It's automatically on GOG for you.
EE Patch is fully out now. Though, looks like servers getting hammered or having installation issues (http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/installer_corrupt)...
Many of the Goodies got EE updated versions, as well [New Comic Book, New Triss Pics, Updated Manual, Updated Soundtrack, etc] - so you might wanna DL what you need or just DL the entire 2.8 GB Goodies EE Pack.

EDIT 1:
If you want to manually install the EE upgrade or just need the files missing to update from TW2 Regular-to-EE, go here and grab what you need:
TW2: EE - Manual Install Files. (http://en.thewitcher.com/ee_manual)

EDIT 2:
Basically, I DL'ed to the folder where you put all the EE Upgrade files:
All the Part 0 files for the language packs (EXE files for installing language packs).
Re-DL'ed Main Files Part 0, 1, and 2 [Part 1 and 2 are rumored to be corrupted; Part 0 is the necessary EXE file].
Ran TWEE_Patch.EXE.
All went fine and can run the game.

EDIT 3:
If you have ALREADY finished the game [recent or long ago], the game created a End Credits Save.
If you Load that, It'll give you the EXTRA slideshow-style] results for your actions.
AWESOME! :D

For anyone who pre-loaded the massive update, you may encounter an error "pack0.dzip corrupt," just re-download part 1 and 2 from the EE manual update page (http://www.thewitcher.com/ee_manual/) and replace them in the pre-load folder then try reinstalling the update.

I was annoyed at the thought of re-downloading a 14GB update but luckily I didn't have to ;)

EDIT:
PC Gamer -> Why CD Projekt Updated The Witcher 2 For Free. (http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/04/17/why-cd-projekt-decided-to-update-the-witcher-2-for-free/)

Quote
t’s been a year since The Witcher 2 was first released on PC. Since then a series of big patches have added new quests, characters, combat tweaks and game modes. Earlier today, the Enhanced Edition made even more additions. Like every update for The Witcher 2, it was released as a free download. I met up with level designer Ziemak Marek last week to find out why CD Projekt have decided not to charge for additions that other companies would sell as DLC packs.

“It’s a part of our philosophy,” Marek said. “Our concept is to create a really great RPG game, and if it’s not great for everyone and it’s not as great as we’d like it to be, if it has some glitches or there are some elements that could be better, then we feel responsible for remaking them.”

Marek went on to say that “it wouldn’t be fair” to charge players for these remade areas. “It’s just improving the game,” he suggested, “it’s not delivering something that’s new.”

But it is adding something new, I suggested, mentioning the new difficulty mode and combat arena added in the 2.0 patch, and the four hours of new quests added in the Enhanced Edition. All these extra areas took time and money to develop, why not pass that cost on to the player?

“We do some extra work, but on the other hand, when you buy The Witcher, we’re promising you a really great experience. If you don’t feel satisfied enough then we, sometimes, probably a little bit guilty because we’re after delivering a really great experience,” he said.

Marek went on to explain that CD Projekt hope that free updates instil sense of goodwill among players. “If you trust as a player that our games are great, you like them, you enjoy them, even if we can’t think about everything, if you find some glitches or problems in the game, you’ll be sure that will be fixed,” he said. “Then you’ll probably feel good when you’re buying our games, and that’s what we’re after.”

“We’re giving resources for that,” he said.

That's true. My experience with The Witcher, the Enhanced Edition update, and CDProjekt RED support they won me over. When The Witcher 2 pre-order started I bought it on GOG.com immediately. It's a game that I don't mind paying full price upfront for since I have faith in the developer and publisher; I know I'm going to be playing and enjoying it.

Alchemy: Crafting slots show how many ingredients there are; better default ingredient selection (e.g., not having to filter out quest item ingredients all the time); un-rotates alchemy element symbols; saves custom ingredient selection for a formula (until you close the panel or go to another formula, but no longer resetting every time you create something).
Tooltips: Taller, and scroll faster.
Inventory/Trading/Storage: Sorting buttons (sort by time acquired, name, aggregate weight, aggegrate price.) Reversible sort also possible.
Trading: Places a checkmark next to books, formulas, and crafting diagrams that you already have in your inventory.
Crafting: Shows how many items you have instead of capping the number at how many are required. E.g., 30/3 instead of 3/3.
Other: Sorts some lists alphabetically: crafting, alchemy, elixirs.

From what I've read on GameBanshee, CDP hired David Block, the guy who made the UI Mod and decided to make it officially part of The Witcher 2 game. (http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/108497-the-witcher-2-enhanced-edition-v32-patch-released.html)

Well, the first game was a bit of a chore to complete. Can't believe I held on for so long. :P The second looks really nice though. :)

Yeah, I went back to replay the TW1 Enhanced Edition and I slumped out in the second act. It is kinda on the tedious side.

Actually in general I'm beginning to feel that most RPGs are an exercise in bureaucracy than actual fun. Darksiders 2 just embellished that point; it's an awesome game just the quest lines can some get monotonous. The defining moment for me was:

Death: Bring out your champion so I can defeat him and get an audience with the Lord of Bones!
Voice: Our champion is not some cur you can call at will. You have to draw him out by bringing blah blah blah.
Me: Sonuvabiiii...

It's never simple, which humorously Death comments on as well "Follow Dust and get the key? It's never that simple is it?"

EDIT:
Sorry, had to cut my post in two due to time constraints.

Anyway, in The Witcher 2 most quests feel different. Sure there are some fetch quests and occasional contracts (from the notice boards) but they're things you can do while you're out there doing what it is you're doing anyway. It feels more natural as opposed to some other RPGs where you have to take the quest to make certain specific scripted enemies to appear exclusively for that scripted event.

So now that I've finally, at long last, finished the original Witcher to my satisfaction, I immediately downloaded the copy of Witcher 2 I got on the cheap years and years ago. Had never so much as seen anything about it given that my PC couldn't run it and I always had the intention of finishing the first and going through the series again.

I'm beyond impressed. The game isn't perfect, but fuck me is it good. It's rather hard to believe this even came from the same developers, as the first almost feels like a great story shoehorned into a super impressive mod, just given all the rough edges. But this game ... other than some niggles like an unintuitive inventory system, occasional bits of dialogue that can be taken out of order, and too many typos that didn't get edited out of what is otherwise pretty quality writing, it's just wonderful. The characters, the dialogue, the story, the pacing, the amount of things to do (that never manages to get so big as to feel overwhelming), the amazing graphics (I actually had to drop settings from the highest on my brand-new beastly rig, and there are still occasional places where it gets a tad framey ... I would not ever have guessed that this is a game from 2011), the great sense of place and atmosphere, the attention to detail in every scene ... holy shit. I really wasn't expecting this to be as impressive and robust an upgrade as it ended up being. I knew it was supposed to be an infinitely better game than the first, but still.

Combat is great. I've heard some people complain about it, but I think it's fantastic. It's extremely deliberate, and button mashing is punished. I'm playing the game on the highest non-hardcore/ironman difficulty, "Dark", and it generally asks one to be cognizant of enemy abilities/strengths/weaknesses, to use signs reasonably well, and to make use of the various equipments available to you. That, or just play with a high level of skill and make few or no mistakes. I really haven't found it THAT difficult so far (I guess I'd call it a stiff challenge?), with a couple troublesome spots I had to retry a considerable number of times until I figured out how to effectively go about them.

Anyway, I'll say more once I've finished the game and moved on to Witcher 3, but for now, I'll say that this has me so excited to see how much bigger and better Witcher 3 is that I can't stand it. I'm loving this one, and am so glad that I went through the first game and imported my save. I'm not sure exactly how important that is in terms of what it brings over that gets referenced by the 2nd game, but having the first experience has made the emotional investment in these characters far greater than it would have been otherwise.

About 1/2 or maybe midway through chapter 2 now. We'll see how much ground I can cover by the end of the week.

B/t W1 and W2 - I think Witcher 2 is the better game itself (combat's much better this time around), while W1 actually tells the better & more complete story. Sure, W2 definitely isn't perfect and all - namely b/c it falls apart in the final Chapter for me, which felt super-rushed & a major set-up for W3: Wild Hunt. W2 just in Chap 3 introduces bunch of story-threads and also leaves some other stuff hanging.

That was a hell of a game. Much shorter and more compressed compared to the first game, but great stuff. Beautiful looking, fun to play, experiments with streamlining the systems in ways that at least indicated ideas at work on the dev team. Most importantly, it really added a depth of storytelling that the first game lacked almost entirely.

It does in some ways feel like sort of a preamble to Witcher 3, but at the same time, I think it tells a much more interesting, better paced, and coherent story. It's much more political, or at least the political implications are better expressed, and while it has some very memorable personal moments, its probably the less personal story of the two. Either way, it ups the ante on everything in the first game and propels it forward with the same kind of inertia the first game ended with. I was surprised with how short it turned out to be, but I didn't find anything at all objectionable about the final chapter. It delivers several a number of important choices, has some big moments, ties up most of the threads it needs to for that game, and answers a lot of questions about smaller mysteries that come up throughout while further exploring some of the larger mysteries of the series as whole.

The post-credits cinematic was really something, I felt that one in my guts. Knowing that this was the world I was about to head into with Witcher 3 was heady. I imagine the impact could have been slightly lessened if I had played it right off the bat and knew that the next game was several years away, but thankfully I didn't have to. It had immediate punch because I knew exactly what I was going to be heading into and that things would no longer be the same.

Anyway, great fucking game despite its relative brevity (not a short game ... I did a fair amount of the side stuff, but not everything, and probably got 45 hours out of it) and somewhat streamlined design. One I would consider going back to play again to try out some different stuff, or just to experience the story once I've gotten far enough away from it again.

The post-credits cinematics that tells you what happened based on your decisions was NOT in the original W2 game. They added that later in a patch, due to complaints about the game ending....

I wouldn't have been dissatisfied even without that, but yeah, I was aware that they added some stuff due to complaints. And I think the stuff they added was really great, so the game certainly feels a bit more complete for having it.

Am I playing the same game here? I've found the Witcher 2 to be a messy pile of shit. I've tried to play it again after a year and after 90 minutes I remember why I tossed this garbage in the back of my closet in the first place. Forget the combat, story, graphics, etc, the complete failure of basic game mechanics is what makes this game so frustrating that its almost unplayable. Quest trackers that either lead you in circles, don't lead you at all or lead you to absolutely nothing. A map that is completely useless, can't be labeled and doesn't even tell you what is up or down, quest info that doesn't give you any info at all. Combine that with no tracking, a shit map and no pieces to the puzzle and you will be spending a lot of time on youtube finding out where to go. To add insult to injury, I spent almost an hour trying to complete one quest only to find out it probably glitched out and I can't complete it.

The inventory system is nonsense, ( I shouldn't have to take pics or write down stuff in my inventory when crafting)...anyways. Obviously, I'm pissed off after wasting my time with this, even worse...everyone else seems to think its GOTY...and I'm playing the "Enhanced Edition". How much more shitty was the original then?

I tried twice to get through this game, and both times I gave up in the same place, some town with a tavern, I think.  There was no indication about what was up.  I felt completely lost, unable to decipher what to do, how to do it or even care about it.  Yeah, I was a bit miffed at myself too, having wasted the time leading up to this.  I'm glad it wasn't just me.

I can't explain why some of us connect so well to some games, and others can't.  I pride myself in finishing the vast majority of games I play.  But there are some that I just can't get through, and seldom because of difficulty.  I think it's more of a fun-frustration balance issue.  If I can't find a way to enjoy it, why do it?  It's not going to get me a better job, girlfriend or life, either way.  I'm aware many think highly of TW2.  Here's two of us who can't fathom that.  We must be wired differently.

The part that really sucks is that I can see this game's potential and I really wanted to like it. I love an epic adventure game and I actually enjoyed the game up until chapter 2. If they've fixed these problems in the third game I'm willing to give it a go (I'll probably have no idea what the hell is going on). However, all of the problems I mentioned weren't mentioned in basically any review I came across except for one (http://mygodwhathassciencedone.blogspot.com/2013/02/great-games-that-actually-suck-witcher-2.html).

I don't know, sometimes I feel like a contrarian, good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like this game. Guess its time to offcially give up on it now.

I've noticed you guys are both very picky, especially where things like inventory management and control are concerned. I don't mean this negatively, just you have less tolerance for stuff you don't like. Which is entirely fair. You find it harder to get used to stuff that frustrates you and it will continue to bug you. It's certainly happened to me here or there too, but I have a fairly high tolerance for that kind of thing most of the time. Unless it's REALLY fucking broken (which this game isn't at all), I'll just get used to it and enjoy it without any real complaint. I even suffered through the original Witcher, which WAS a legitimately broken pile of shit in a lot of ways, and still managed to mostly enjoy it. We've all got different taste and different levels of tolerance for things. I loved Witcher 2, and while I can intellectually understand your arguments, I didn't experience anything like what you're describing. It certainly wasn't the best game I ever played, and it definitely had some rough spots, but the flaws weren't anything I couldn't get past, and the good stuff outshined it all by far.

It's also worth noting that I generally don't care if a game has a lot of map niceties and such. I'm old school, that stuff all still feels like needless hand-holding to me most of the time. I don't really remember if that was the case here. I don't think I felt lost much, but I don't really remember it well enough at this point.

I also played it on the hardest difficulty that didn't just delete your save on death, so I don't know if that might have affected my view somewhat. Same way I've been playing Witcher 3. I think these 2 games shine when you really have to learn the combat and actually understand potion use and such, not just be able to mash your way through it, whereas with the first game it's probably better to just crank it down and get through it as fast as you can because the combat is really awful. So that might have made me appreciate the combat more? I dunno.

Anyway, all that said, Witcher 3 is definitely a better game than 2 by a large margin. It's got all the great storytelling, but the combat and inventory management is better, the world is more open, and it's better about directing you. It does suck to miss the story stuff, but Witcher 3 also kind of thrusts the story in a new direction. If you just watch a YouTube synopsis or something you'd probably be fine.

That's the funny thing.  I loved TW3.  I also said it has the worst inventory system in the history of videogames--and I emphasized that by pointing out that I personally know the entire length of that history.  (Haha!)  To be fair, that's the console version, which was apt to slow down to a crawl when paging across it, and sometimes even corrupted its icon-sized item images.  Even without the tech hurdles, it's a grid-shaped nightmare.

Anyway, the point is that when I'm otherwise fully engaged in a game, I'll fight my way through its shortcomings, so I can continue to experience it.  TW2 just lost me.  I was OK with the intro sections, battling my way through, getting used to what's what.  Then suddenly, it completely changed into something else, dumped me in an unattractive, uninvolving place, said nothing of substance to me about it, then left me alone--with the crappy interface--to my own devices.  That's why I stopped playing, twice.  It could be that if I had managed to care enough, and work at it hard enough, I would have ended up loving the whole thing.  Maybe.  Can't tell for sure now.

I'm kinda weird like that, some things I can tolerate in a game and some things I can't. I actually played the first game, the combat didn't impress me, but it didn't deter me either. The only reason why I didn't finish that game was because it crashed, I hadn't saved in a long time and I lost all of the tedious "shopping time" I did. I liked the game other than that, still had the same problems with the map and quests though.

I don't like hand holding either, but I don't feel like this game gives you all of the pieces to solve the puzzles presented to you. I played this on the 360, so it might be different than what others have experienced. However, I thought the tracking and map were obviously atrocious and I couldn't understand why no review mentioned that at all. As I said, I enjoyed the game until I got to Vergen, it could just be a crap part of the game, but I just have no interest into going back.

I'm thinking of getting an Xbox One soon, I'll definitely give number 3 a try though.

Edit: This guy in this video is having the same exact problems as I am, looks like he's playing on the 360 as well.

Haha, some of that does come back to me. Vergen was particularly bad about the map stuff. Vergen was also the low point of the game in a lot of respects. And I kinda hated how things were divided into chapters by location, which made it feel sorta smaller and such. But I think I really just hit those speed bumps at top speed and flew over them, even when they were jarring. I had a lot of momentum with the game which probably helped too, as I never really stopped long enough to get that frustrated. I just sat down and plowed through it in a handful of longer sessions.

Regardless, do check out the story stuff on YouTube or something, then play 3. I legitimately feel like 3 is one of the best games of all time. Not because it isn't also rough in spots, or that it does any one particular thing better than any other game, but more that it does SO MUCH and despite the huge breadth of content, it still manages to do it all to a high degree of quality. Very few big games of that type manage to have an engaging story, engaging side stories, beautiful environments, rich fiction, believable characters, good combat, interesting systems, etc. Even if you don't come away as impressed as I did, it's still a damn fine video game.

Hahahaha.  I def had rose tinted googles on when thinking about this game until recently.  Witcher 1 had a lot of issues but I remember at the time thinking that this was the weaker game because of the map, fucking inventory system requiring me to guess what to keep and what to hold on to, and weak side quests. Thinking about it now I remember kind of forcing my way through it, which I didn't do to the other games.

The Witcher 3, however is absolutely something you should get into.  The expansions are amazing as well.

Ok, so I really wanted to play and RPG, so I tried this again. It took YouTube on my computer and Google on my phone, but I finally made progress. It seems that the one quest glitch isn't so much a glitch as it was sloppy development, its connected to another quest and you have to do certain things first. Anyways, I got some quests done and it now seems that I'm able to move forward without have to use a guide...for now.

You're approaching the end. If you can suffer through it, there isn't a ton left, and then you can transfer that save into Witcher 3.

Like I said, I see the potential in this game, the excution just isn't the greatest. I need to get an Xbox One to play the next one. I have over 30 Xbox 360 games that I haven't finished or played. I think I'm beyond the point of catching up. Should I just move on to the next system?

If you're going to do that, go for a good deal on the S model.  The PS4 is undeniably the better system now, though.  Sony has all the momentum and by far the best 3rd-party support and exclusives.  Microsoft have dropped the ball in the console space for about a year now.  They're leaning too heavily on the technology of the 6-teraFLOPS X.  Consoles aren't primarily about tech.  Never have been.  You're not heavily invested in the Xbox online community, are you?  Because that's the only way I'd recommend you stay with Microsoft at this point.

No, I don't play online anymore, it isn't what it used to be back in my day. I'm kind of a homer, I usually stick to one system. I have nothing against Sony, but like you you said...I expect an Xbox One drop sometime soon. I don't play enough games to warrant spending too much money on a system.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I bought my PS4 Slim on sale a few weeks ago.  The main thing for me is that all the Microsoft Xbox exclusives are on PC now too.

And I'm doing good man, how about you?
