Amazon is doing something interesting. They have a selection of deals, and people vote on the ones they want to happen. The one that wins will go on sale 11am pacific next Thursday.

The thing is, only 1000 systems will be sold at that price. So I'd have to be up and all ready to purchase, as I imagine they will sell out super fast.

Nope, its one per person. If you look on the page theres a link to an explanation of what happens. You have to go to the vote page to click the item. If you go to the items regular page you wont get the discount. Once you click the right link it will ask you to confirm your password and ask a simple question (probably to stop bots from pounding the page and getting a system). Amazon then gives you a code. Once you have the code, you are guaranteed a system. You don't have to rush through the checkout or anything, but the code expires in 24 hours whether you use it or not.
I'm going to try get my hands on a system. I figure I wont (how fast can I refresh a page on dialup?), but it'll be a fun challenge.

No I feel for Que. That would tick me off so much, but then again this is a limited release, even if Que had waited I doubt he could have gotten in on this deal. Is the money saved worth that slight chance that he may get it cheaper? Between when he bought it and now, he's had a great time with it.
Also if anyone does get the opportunity, buy more than one. :(

I'm going to try for it, but my luck is never good so I'm not getting my hopes up. It has to be at 2pm on fucking Thanksgiving, doesn't it. Huge advantage for left-coasters considering us EST people are going to be entertaining family by then most likely.

Well, it certainly wont hurt to try for it if I'm around. I'm already in the mindset that I won't get one...but who knows, I might get lucky and hit refresh at just the right instant.

You know, I was just thinking. Circuit City matches internet prices from the bigger internet shopping sites, amazone, overstock, newegg, ect. I wonder if they would match the $100 deal? It's a long shot, but if I don't score one tomorrow, I'm going to screenshot the page, and take it in.

I wonder if any companies offers a parcel-relay type service... e.g. you give Amazon the address of the relay company (based in the US); the company receives the item and in turn ships it to you (in a different country).

I assume that if I get a code I can then have it shipped to someone else's place, which I will certainly do provided I am given prompt repayment. As to who I would choose... that'll depend on a variety of things, like who wants to send me the most hookers.

I wonder how much traffic there had to be to slow down the amazon servers that much. I mean, they aren't a small company, the servers have to be pretty substantial.
Anyways, that sucks that no one got it. I wasn't even at my computer at that time, I had family obligations to take care of, unless I would have probably tried.

You have to remember in networking there aren't just servers, there are routers and switches and DNS servers. Those can get overloaded too.
I doubt it was their servers being overloaded. More likely it was a router or two.
