Post by: MysterD on Thursday, April 13, 2017, 04:03:51 AM
GameRant - Looks like we might have an idea what BioWare has been up to - BioWare Edmonton's New IP code-named "Dylan" (known as Anthem) might actually be a sci-fi MMO-lite game like that of Destiny + The Division. (https://gamerant.com/bioware-game-destiny-meets-the-division/)

Anyone taking bets on how long Bioware remains even a shadow of its former self (if it survives at all)?

Mike Laidlaw, long-time Creative Director for DA Series, also left a bit ago, too.
WTH is going on there?

Kotaku's Jason Schreier says that all BioWare Studios (Edmonton and Austin) are now all working on Anthem for 2019 release:

Jason blew the door wind-open on the stuff going on what went wrong w/ Mass Effect Andromeda; and also Visceral closing with their Star Wars Ragtag game being cancelled.

Also, Jason claims Mark Darrah who normally is one of the main players involved in Dragon Age franchise games has been moved over to Anthem.

Darrah himself basically confirms that he's working on Anthem now...and also still at work on DA:

The Next Mass Effect and Dragon Age games will be influenced by Anthem, Bioware says:
https://www.vg247.com/2018/09/02/new-dragon-age-mass-effect-influenced-by-anthem/

Quote
Anthem is structured so that its hub world, Tarsis, is where players will experience the more traditional RPG elements and story-telling of the game, while it’s online open world is where players can get stuck into the looting and shooting.

“We’ve got the continuation of stories after we’ve launched,” said Michael Gamble, lead producer on Anthem. “If you remember back to the ancient times we released a game and that would the story for a set of characters, and we released DLC that enabled us to tell unique bits of story afterwards.

“For Anthem, where we’d all like to see us head, is the ability to tell new great stories throughout the years, throughout the months after launch.”

“So After Anthem we can say, okay, now we’re going to expand the storyline for one of those Agents, or now that certain points in the game world have happened, this changes the relationship, this changes this character, this changes the type of missions for certain characters. Or even we add new characters, we add new Agents. We can do all that and Anthem gives us the tools to do all that.

“My point is that I hope that future games, whether it’s Dragon Age or the other one that starts with ‘Mass’, continues to utilise this kind of storytelling.”

Mark Darrah, executive producer on Anthem, added it’s not just the structure and delivery of Anthem’s story that will influnce fuuture games, but also its depth.

“One of the things that we’ve really done in Anthem is focus a lot of attention on Tarsis,” he said. “It’s the primary place where we do the reactive storytelling.

“As a result we’ve pushed Tarsis further than we’ve ever pushed any of our hubs before. It’s a reactive space, a space that feels more living, more alive. And I think going forward with future Dragon Age games, or others games, that you’re going to see that reactivity, that depth in our hubs that we’re bringing out in Anthem.”

GameRant - BioWare's Thomas Singleton is saying playing single-player probably won't be as rewarding (as co-op). (https://gamerant.com/anthem-game-single-player/)

Quote
Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine, BioWare’s Thomas Singleton, a developer on Anthem, explained, “Where the product shines is playing as that squad, you’re working together as a unit to go and conquer various missions.”

He then added, “If you want to play the experience solo that’s your option, it probably won’t be as rewarding, you won’t have that team dynamic.”

Singleton also pointed out that Anthem scales based on how many people are playing, so at the very least, the experience shouldn’t be frustrating for those who decide to play it solo.

If you have the time, this article is one hell of a read on the behind the scenes stuff.

This makes ME:A's development hell sound like...Heaven, in comparison.
