Nicknames
« on: Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 11:25:26 PM »
You have any nicknames that friends give you? Ive had numerous throughout my life. Probably the worst one going through junior high was scrotum shamefully because of my last name, har har. Anybody I meet here is welcome to call me Pyro, I think Mike or Matt did once or twice. Back in my college drinking days I hung out with a group of friends that K-Man was apart of and he dubbed me Road Dog.

Probably one of my pet peaves now is if someone I don't know too well or work with gives me a nickname for no rhyme or reason. I know you may be trying to be friendly or funny, but until you actually know me better, you call me by my actually name.

Nothing too unusual. Most of my friends call me Steve, which I guess is a nickname. Although not really.

There were also some pretty hurtful nicknames, but I blocked those from my subconscious. Every now and then I will cry myself to sleep remembering what they used to call me.

Everyone here calls me idol, which is fine. Sometimes people call me jaybird, and my cousin calls me "jay jay the jet plane".

Not a lot.  A lot of people call me Q, including several RL friends.  That got started and just sort of stuck.  One chick used to call me Monkey (because I often go by Mikey, and I had a lot of monkey crap people used to give me... stuffed animals and wind-up king kongs, whatever), but she didn't use it too much.  So... mostly just Q.  Which I respond to probably more quickly than my own name, since half the people who call me by my real name are people I can't stand, when almost everyone who calls me Q is in my good books.

let's see...

pretty much everyone has just called me by my surname for a long time now, but there have been a few. for a while i was called "cheese", which has a really inane story behind it (nothing to do with my penis, btw), and also "mosh head", because i had long hair. the only one that really stuck was "slothman" and later just "sloth", which was given because i'm apparently more than a little bit lazy.

I have one current one and one past one and one uncommon one:

"Will:"  My friends call me this.  This was a play on "no will power" which stemmed from a multitude of things such as not being able to quit smoking after many attempts (finally kicked it about 3 yrs ago though) and if I was ever called out to drink anything at anytime, I pretty much couldn't say no.

"Ned:"  At the ice company, one of my bosses used to call me by my last name except he would always incorrectly add an "S" on the end.  That derivative of my name sounds similar to "Flanders," which he was not oblivious to and he began to call me that.  People eventually started to call me "Ned" (obviously from The Simpsons character Ned Flanders).  It didn't bother me at first, but this basically became my name at that company.  Even the damn president of the company started to call me Ned after a couple years.  That name ended one day when... well lets just say I got really mad and just went off on everyone.

"Scooter:"  A play on "Scott."  Some individuals occasionally called me this throughout my life.  I hate this one really bad.

I still think dubbing you Road Dog was a stroke of genius
