Topic: Ikaruga's now available on Xbox Live

Hurray, HD goodness for one of my favorite games. 

Kinda rusty though since I haven't played it in about 2 years, though I still managed to get a fairly high rank and stuff. 

Anyway, if you've never played Ikaruga and you've got an Xbox360, here's your chance to experience it.  If you have, well, you can now play it in HD, and play it online...

Geez, and how.  The demo is the perfect mini-game because of it.  I have yet to beat it.    Top score so far is around 80,000.

I have Ikaruga for the GCN.  I liked it but damn the game was butt hard.  And I was really discouraged by iPPi's scores and some of the videos I saw.  Basically, I sucked.

I always wanted to play the two player mode, but none of my friends or brothers are into stuff like that.  They just want to play PC shooters or sports games.

Yeah, I figured I wouldn't start him with the double play videos.  I hit a new level of depression when I saw that.

i always thought that this was going to be one of those cult classics that got way more attention than it actually deserved, so i stupidly skipped it in the past on that basis. after having quite a few play throughs of the demo and eventually beating it, i'm pleased to say i was wrong - it's great!

for some reason the entire game reminds me of a megaman boss fight. hard as nails at first, but not so bad once you learn the patterns. think i'll be purchasing a points card soon...

The game is a little different from the GCN version.  The differences are subtle, but some of the maneuvers that were possible in the older versions no longer work well on the XBLA version.  For example, the timing of the 4-1 ships makes it surprisingly hard to chain appropriately, and the mini-boss at the end of 3-2, the colors and rotation have been reversed. 

I've only ever managed to 1 credit complete the game once, and that was a very long time ago.  I'm gonna have to see if I can do it again.

Online co-op, while nice in theory, doesn't work so well in practice because of lag. 

Still an absolute blast though.

I had seen a double-play video before, maybe it was the same one.  That is depressing.  I can't possibly compete with that.
