EA tampers with the truth at Wikipedia.
« on: Thursday, August 16, 2007, 07:11:57 AM »
I hate those stupid fuckers.

Ren posted this in the Wikiscanner thread, but I thought it deserved its own.  There are plenty of reasons to hate EA, and apparently EA doesn't want you to remember them.  That's pretty logical all things considered, but instead of trying to cover up the truth of their origins, early business practices, and historical abuses of employees, maybe they shouldn't have made those fucking mistakes and strayed from what once made them good in the first place.

I remember EA from its very origins, in the days of early 8-bit micros.  It was a shining light then, such a contrast with the money-grubbing corruption it has degenerated into.  I think I posted a scan of a story once from over 20 years ago.  I'll see if I can find it again, for the sake of contrast, and maybe as my own penlight into the darkness.

Edit:
Here are scans of a short article from the October 1983 issue of Computer Gaming World, on Electronic Arts and Trip Hawkins.
First page
Second page

Everything was so raw and green then.  Even the magazine looked like something published at some college.  I have the 20 MB PDF of the whole issue, which I'll gladly share if anyone really wants it.  I don't have good, fast webspace anywhere right now, though.  The images I posted are heavily compressed so that they can load fast enouhg from my own computer.  Feel free to move them to a better venue.

I remember Origin Systems. They were a part of EA, but man they had some great games :) Crusader, Wing Commander, WC: Privateer, etc.

I still remember a few decent EA games on my Sega Megadrive (Genesis), like General Chaos!
