Photo software
« on: Saturday, September 01, 2007, 01:22:44 PM »
Hey all, I've had a digital camera for a while, but I finally want to get into using one of those online photo services to print digital photos. Does anyone have any recommendations for software to organize/edit photos? Basically I want something that can do this: upload your digital photos, select a certain number (that I want printed eventually), then edit those photos (like brightening and cropping), and then export to a new folder that I can upload to a photo printing website. Any ideas?

Well, I like to use Picasa. I pull the images off the camera using the built in windows tool that simply copies them to My Pictures (sub folders by date). Then I point Picasa to that directory. I can see all my pics in thumbnail, of course zoom to full size. Theres some basic editing features like red eye removal, brightness, tint, and others. You can then export your edited photos to a directory to upload to a print site.

I haven't used any print service before so I can't really recommend any.

If you want something more "professional", just to name a few:

Lightroom
BibblePro
PhaseOne
DxO

On the Mac, you also have Aperture
