What is your most prized gaming-related possession?
« on: Friday, July 03, 2009, 09:16:19 PM »
I was just staring at this wall o' entertainment in my man cave and reminiscing about what I've collected over the years.  I am trying to narrow down one thing but I'm having a little trouble.  Maybe either the MGS3 or 4 collectors editions.  In all actuality it's probably my copy of Chrono Trigger for SNES.

Anyhow, just curious, what's your most prized possession?  Hell you can list what means the most to you.  If you've got something that's worth a lot of money then list that too!

This is a good thread.  I'll have to go through some of my stuff.  I honestly don't know that I can pick one thing, but I could definitely list some stuff...

Most prized would be my PC since its what makes 90% of my gaming possible, but thats not really a good answer.

Oh, somewhere in here I have a cover disc from PC Gamer that has like 20 classic PC games on it, all full versions. Its pretty awesome.

My little Metroid collection probably. I have all the games all arranged in a cool little space on one of my shelves (in the order of the series timeline). It lacks the original Metroid cart, but that's covered by Metroid Zero.

My most prized Collectors' Editions would have to be:

Oblivion CE
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory CE
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition CE
Unreal Tournament III CE

But my single most prized posession is Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the Sega Saturn. God, I love that game.

Wow, this is gonna take a lot of thinking here...

I could take the cheap way out and say "My entire gaming collection!" :oP

Fallout 3 CE (PC) means a lot to me -- since I spent $70 on the thing, day of release. Most I ever spent on one game period. Great game, BTW.

Hmmm....whatelse?

My 4-CD set of Planescape: Torment, of course -- one of the best RPG's of all time. Plus, everybody who missed that classic seems to want that thing.

Witcher (UK Edition) means a lot, too -- since that version is uncensored and since I spent $50 for it + shipping. I don't spent that much on a game too often. Worth every penny; amazing game.

I'm sure there's more; just need more time to think about everything here.

Mine would have been my copy of The legend of zelda: A Link to the Past for the SNES.  But my brother took it and lost it.  Thats probably the first game I can remember that got me playing games.

This one is going to be hard for me to answer.  I'll have to give it some thought.  The one thing that occurred to me is that I recently found out Earthbound (SNES) is worth like $200 a copy, and mine is still intact with box and manual.  Nearly all my carts are still that way.  It can't be my most prized gaming possession, though.  That would be more personal.

don't know how to narrow it down.

got promo copies of most the big release sega dreamcast games - shenmue 2 being a favourite.

also got my bbc model b which is the first computer i actually owned.

original gameboy for my first console.

360 joystick because i built it.

also, i do love my saturn along with vitua cop 2 + guns and nights with the pad.

as a whole though, maybe my street fighter games. sf 2 - snes, sf 2 super turbo x revival - gba, sf 2 turbo - 360, sf anniversary - ps2, sf alpha - pc, sf alpha 2 - saturn, sf alpha 3 - dc, sf 3: 3s - dc, marvel vs capcom 2 - dc, capcom vs snk 2 - ps2, sf 4 - 360. i'm no collector, but that's bordering on one.

Heh, really? I can't really name anything right now except the MGS Essentials pack that was released. Im not that much of a collector, however I was rather proud of the Marvel 2D fighting games I had collected for the Saturn which you now own, actually your collection of fighting games in general is rather impressive and I sort of admire it.

yeah, my eyes kept gravitating toward my Saturn collection that you are majorly responsible for.  I guess my Saturn version of SotN is also worth noting.

I also have the preorder bonuses from when I first preordered Chrono Cross.  It was the first game I ever preordered and the first one that I ever knew of stateside that came with preorder bonuses.  Back when EB Games was still relatively small time.

My collection is mostly divided up into a couple sections: Collector's/Limited Editions of games, OSTs, art/etc. books, and "other".

I don't really have any single items that are particularly valuable or noteworthy, it's generally just the collections themselves that end up meaning something.  There are a few exceptions.

Varia Suit Samus from First 4 Figures is a bit of a special item for me.  I paid a fair bit of money for it, more than I'll usually pay for this kind of thing.  I have a longstanding emotional bond with Samus, though, so I wanted to get it.  I'm a big fan, like Sy, and I'm actually still considering getting Zero Suit Samus.  Don't need or want any of the others, really, though it'd be awesome if I could get the MP2 gunship.  But that's $300, and well out of range for any sane collector who isn't rich.

My bunch of CE/LEs are something I take a bit of pride in.  I have others that aren't listed here, but I don't feel like hunting down the ones that aren't currently grouped together on the shelf.  So I've got special editions of: BlazBlue, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Warcraft 3, Quake Wars, KISS Psycho Circus, Bioshock, Disciples II, Prey, Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Factions, Guild Wars: Nightfall, GTAIV, Bully, Gears of War, Final Fantasy XII, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and The Witcher.  There are a few others, like I said, but I'm in no mood to hunt them down.  A number of others are also limited first-run things sort of like BlazBlue.

I have #203 of the limited 500-copy run of Doom 3's theme on 7" vinyl released by Waxploitation records and signed by Chris Vrenna.

I have the special 20th anniversary box for Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

I have a bunch of Final Fantasy XII stuff, including the Ultimania Omega guide in Japanese, the six original promotional posters of the characters, a cardboard store standee, the full 4-CD Limited Edition OST, and a nearly-complete run of the first set of pins they released in Japan (these are a bitch and a half to find).  Sadly, I do not have any of the large figures or the amazing Judge Gabranth resin helm that generally costs over $1,000.  And at one point, I almost did have it.  Oh, and I have the mini figures of the main characters.  Can't find a picture with all of them in it, so there's just a picture at the bottom here that looks pretty similar.

I have a whole metric crapton of Seiken Densetsu/Mana-related stuff.  I have original Japanese Seiken Densetsu 2 and Seiken Densetsu 3 carts, a number of Japanese guide and art books, a gigantic SD3 sheet music book, and nearly every OST ever released for the games, including Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, Secret of Mana +, Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend of Mana, Sword of Mana, Children of Mana (no actual CD - it was digital distrib only over iTunes in Japan), Seiken Densetsu 4, and Heroes of Mana.  A lot of this stuff I can't even find pictures for.

I have a Saturn with an original copy of NiGHTS plus the special controller.  No Panzer Dragoon Saga yet, sadly.  =(

I also have a bunch of cool old oversize display boxes from the earlier days of Electronics Boutique, including one for Sword of the Berserk for DC, Half-life: Opposing Force, and... I forget.  Some other ones.  Unfortunately, they've been broken down and in storage for years.

I also have a nearly-complete collection of figures from American McGee's Alice, both series 1 and 2.  As far as I know (information on what was available in each series is basically nonexistent now, and was nearly so back when I started collecting them), I'm only missing 2 of the 4 card guards, because they came packaged in sets of two and it was random which 2 you'd get.  I was never able to find a pack with the 2 I needed.  So I have both editions of Alice and the Cheshire Cat, both of the White Rabbit (series 2 was a black one), the Jabberwocky, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, and 2 of the 4 card guards.

I have a large collection of maps from various games as well, like the cloth maps from Neverwinter Nights and Ultima IX: Ascension, and poster maps for way too many to bother listing here (though I really love all the Elder Scrolls maps, and Sy was nice enough to laminate me the giant one from Oblivion).

I could go on and on about the other OST discs and the art books and such, but those aren't really my top stuff anyway.  I have some other figures as well, such as a couple from the Diablo II line and whatnot, but... eh.  I'm tired now.

So there you go.  That's most of the gaming stuff that means the most to me.

EDIT - A few changes/additions/edits.

EDIT x2 - Fuck.  I didn't know seikens didn't let people hotlink images.  I'm going to have to yell at Sheexy for that.  Yell with loudness.

I love the Fallout 3 bobblehead from the CE.
I still got my copy of FO2 on CD, back when Interplay first dropped it. Got that game for X-Mas. Awesome.

For CE's, let me think of what I have...

I got HGL CE, which I absolutely love the packaging and everything -- huge box and all with a comic book inside (prequel to HGL game). Cool packaging.

Age of Conan CE is just amazing packaging for a CE, shaped like a book and having all kinds of stuff inside it -- and I ain't even started the goddamn game yet.

I got Red Alert 3 Premier Edition (CE). Very nice slim packaging, in a slim tin case. Ain't started the game yet. Hell, ain't even began ANY of the C&C stuff I already own, such as any of The C&C Saga Box (C&C Decade Collection + C&C3)....

Prey CE is pretty nice in its tin case, as well -- the small little figures are pretty cool, as well.

I got FEAR CE (PC), as well.

EDIT:
Oh, I got Quake 4 Special DVD Edition, as well -- which contains also Quake 2 (which I already owned) + all of its expansions (which I was missing, until I bought that Special Edition).

EDIT #2:
Oh, yeah -- when I bought FF9 for PSX, not too long after, I signed right up for getting one of those Vivi plush dolls from -- I think it was SquareSoft's Play.com? Yup, I wound up receiving one of those plush dolls. :)

EDIT #3:
Another CE I forgot about that I own -- I got the HL2: Collector's Edition. After that began being discontinued, when the lawsuit began b/t Sierra and Valve, this CE dropped to $30 at GameStop in no time. Had to get it -- especially since it also contained HL1: Source Version and a HL2 T-Shirt. Too cool to pass up on.

I totally forgot I had that Portrait of Ruin deal.  And I love the FF 12 stuff, especially the soundtrack.  Definitely one of the games I need to get back into playing.  That Samus statue is badass.

I was lucky enough to obtain a sealed copy of NiGHTS with the controller a few years ago at what I affectionately refer to as "Shady Guy's", a locally owned game store that i'm sure pyro has mentioned during his visits.  I bought it for like 20 bucks.  I overpaid for Mr. Bones though, so that made us even I suppose.

My most expensive, but not necessarily prized, gaming possession is my World of Warcraft FigurePrint of my character.  That thing cost $200 and I kind of regret getting it.

My most prized item is my World of Warcraft Collectors Edition. Unlike the 2 expansions, the CE for original WoW was sold out in only a few hours following release. Not only that, its been 4 years since this game came out so a large number of people with CE's have quit. That means theres only a few of us going around with pandas, mini diablos and zerglings. This is awesome because i get tons of tells asking me where i got those pets and i love to fuck around with them. I told one rogue i got my zergling farming orcs in any of the Blackrock spire instances. I did a /who on him 2 hours later and he was in one of those instances hahaha
Suck it, Pugnate.

Hehe Keeb, you know that the WoW CE goes for like $1000 on eBay if it's sealed?

Anyway, here are some pics of my FigurePrint.

I also got the Wrath of the Lich King CE, but that's really nothing special.

My other more prized possession is the Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic Art Book I picked up at Blizzcon 2008.  This too was a limited print item, though a softcover version is now mass printed.

This is a piece of art that you can frame up.  It came with the art book in a slip.  There are a couple different pieces like this.

What's funny is that I don't play WoW anymore.

That book is sexy as all hell, though.  I've been done with WoW for a long time, but I wouldn't mind having that.  There's some great art associated with the game.

I don't really have anything very noteworthy.  I'm not much of a collector, so I don't go for the limited editions or the collector's editions of anything and don't purchase gaming-related action figures, statues, books, soundtracks, or prints.  I suppose an almost exception is the Starcraft Terran Marine figure, which I tried to find well after it was discontinued but never was successful.

I guess Ogre Battle: Person of Lordly Caliber (N64) is somewhat rare and I own that.  It goes for a lot on half.com, but eBay auctions don't seem to fetch very much for it in comparison, though I suppose the final prices are a lot more than the average N64 game.

I take pride in my Goldeneye 007 N64 cart since it has the invisibility cheat (among many others) and 007 mode unlocked.  This proves I beat Aztec on 00 Agent, which took me weeks of trying over and over and over.  It was the most difficult level or game section that I'd ever played - at least amongst those I'd ever bothered to actually complete.  It's one of the very few games where I actually tried to unlock things beyond those that were unlocked by accident in my attempts to complete a game.
