Professor Layton and the Curious Village
« on: Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 01:51:25 AM »
Thought I posted about this before, but I couldn't find it if I did.  Anyway...

It may sound queer, but I picked up this game today and I absolutely love it.  A real breath of fresh air.  Basically, it's a collection of brain teasers like you find often on DS now, but instead of just being this sterile collection, it's got a nice creative packaged that comes with it, too.  So you've got a story with strange, interesting characters, some phenomenal art, fully voiced cutscenes, some minigames and side stuff, and all kinds of other little odds and ends.  If you're looking for a puzzle game that fits the riddler/brain teaser mold but actually offers you a reason to keep coming back beyond the raw activity itself, you should really try this out.  Don't be fooled by the kiddy look, it's not actually as kiddy as it seems looks-wise, and it's got a pretty decent story and some very tough puzzles kids would be hard pressed to figure out.

I just got a DS last week and this game recently and I'm loving it so far, a couple of the puzzles have stumped me for a bit already, but its satisfying to figure them out when you finally do.  You'll probably appreciate this comic Que.

I wanted to post this a while back. It was one of the few times I laughed out loud at a PA comic.

I picked up both these games in the past week because Beth had some interest in playing them (and I could take advantage of getting them cheap via Game Crazy and a Best Buy reward zone certificate).  I have to say they are very well put together.

And I'm slowly coming to the realization that the DS really is becoming the last bastion of throwback gameplay.  I've probably purchased more DS games in the past 3 months than all my other systems combined.
