I have not seen any of those but I want to see The Prestige, Children of Men, and The Departed.  Don't really have any interest in the others, especially United 93, I've had all I can stomach of 9/11 movies/documentaries, bleh.

I like Clive Owen in Sin City, but it wasn't until Inside Man that I actually respected him as an actor. I thought the ending went on a little bit to long, but the movie ends perfectly.

Pan's Labyrinth would be movie of the year for me.  I'd very much like to see Children of Men as well, and also Apocalypto, but haven't gotten around to it.

My favorite movie was Thank You for Smoking. It was so smart, and not in that convoluted inside bs kinda way.

And my guilty pleasure of the year was jackass 2. I cant remember the last time I lauged that hard so I had to give it some respect.

Actually, I thought Slither was funny and well done... but it being in my top 10 was just a joke. I put Inside Man back in.

Also, don't short changed Casino Royale -- it's the best Bond film since Goldfinger. I loved it.

Totally agree on Casino Royale and Children of Men. Both amazing movies. The only other one I've seen on your list is Borat which I could not stand at all; but that hardly puts me in position to judge it.

I agree with Schlotzky on Thank You For Smoking being best movie of the year. It's currently my favourite film.

I liked Jackass 2 a lot also. Thank You For Smoking was very good. I saw Blood Diamond, good movie. I think Djimon deserves his oscar... but Leo should have been nominated for The Departed.

I hated Lucky Number Slevin, it was good at first, but fell apart at the end. Not to mention there was no action in it like the commercials and previews stated.

Clive Owen is, often, very good.

I really liked him in "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead."

Yeah, I had a marathon of re-watching tons of stuff from 2006 (through dollar movies, pirated oscar dvds, or etc) and I think that's my final count. I re-evaluated a lot of stuff based on multiple viewings and much I enjoyed them around again.

I still want to see the movie 8-BIT, a doc about NES inspiring a generation of artists.

I'm surprised you rank Borat so high up.  It was an interesting movie... but I don't consider it anything spectacular, and would never consider it a 'top film' of mine.  Totally agree with you on The Prestige though being up there.  It's my favorite movie this year, but I still have to see Pan's Labyrinth, and a handful of other movies.

Man 2006 was a killer year for movies, so many good ones on that list. Anyway Ender, did you see your movie yet?

Yeah! I want to know if it's good because if it is, it's probably the 2nd movie I'll see for my film class to write a paper on (first was Prisoners, which was pretty damned good).

I would probably redo this list now. Children of Men in #1 as time goes by.

I haven't seen Ender's Game yet! I might go this week sometime.

Agreed on Children of Men. I loved almost all the movies from that list but Children of Men is the only one that has still stuck with me almost 8 years older. It may actually be an all-time favourite.

Solid flick, but I never cared for it as much as many. The story is very thin, at least in my view. Not a lot really happens, characters don't evolve much. It's more an atmosphere movie than anything, though it does that in top-notch fashion. I also love how often Clive Owen stubs his toe on stuff and says "fuck", which almost got to the point of running gag. Saw that with my ex-wife, Sy, and Aimee back in the good old days of California, at the little theater in El Cerrito that reopened and served beer and food and stuff.

The Departed remains a favorite. We just watched that in film class the other day, and even though I had studying to do I watched it anyway. I think the only movie that out-f-bombs it is Sexy Beast, which will make your head explode because of Ben Kingsley if you watch it back to back with Hugo. Brick is a very, very imperfect movie, but I so love what it tries to do, and it does manage to do a lot of it really well. I keep trying to watch it with my girlfriend and she keeps falling asleep. I love Pan's Labyrinth too (another one I saw with Sy and Aimee), but the end always makes me cry because I'm a girl.
