This was all a battle for PR. I am sure they planned to release them all along.

Undoubtedly, but I just fail to see what they gain by provoking all of the world powers. All North Korea gained was millions of it's citizens starving. Maybe they assume that because we failed in Iraq that we will fail again, or that we are too scared to go to war. If we were persuaded to go to war when there was no threat, I doubt we will have a hard time going when there is a legitimate threat.

Dude, Iraq was a legitimate threat.  They had those WMD thingies remember?

Well been following this on Fox News. Looks like they were in Iranian waters and their captain admitted to SKY news that they were there to gather intel.

In light of that Iran would have been justified to put them on trial, and even punish them. It would be the same for any other country.

OK scratch that. Fox News is turning into a rumor mill.

Anyone watching the press conference? It is fascinating as hell. So they say they were clearly inside Iraqi waters etc.

I doubt we will ever know the truth.  The whole thing is just a propaganda and PR campaign now.  Iran's decision to look like the good guy was surprisingly smart considering how stupid those letters looked.

"Is turning"? As in, progressive tense?

Honestly, if you want useful information, stay the Hell away from the TV.

Also, Pug - did you ever read about the Pueblo incident, like I mentioned earlier? I think the parallels are pretty friggin' obvious.

I just read about the Pueblo incident for the first time.  Interesting stuff.  And yes there are definitely some parallels there.

If you have a point though, I can't quite make out what it is.  I'd like to hear it.

My point was that Pug's question...
Iran TV shows captured Briton saying sorry

What the hell is wrong with these nuts?
...is pointless, because hostages can be made to say a lot of things.

haha no I meant their captors were nuts to force confessions on TV and pretend they were legitimate.

edit:

Yea I read about the incident. That's pretty wild.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
