Dead or Alive is coming to the PC.

Looks like it's going to be an online game, as well.

Previously found only in arcades and on consoles, Tecmo's flagship fighting franchise Dead or Alive series is headed for PCs next year. Shanda Interactive Entertainment today announced that it will debut Dead or Alive Online in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao next year.

While the Dead or Alive series is a signature franchise of Tecmo's Team Ninja, development for the PC edition is being entrusted to another of the publisher's internal operations, the online-specialist Lievo Studio. Tecmo has said the all-new title will feature the characteristics of an online PC game, but did not go into further detail.

Shanda said it expects Dead or Alive Online to go live before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which kick off August 8, 2008. Western gamers will also eventually get their chances to put the PC edition through its paces, as the game is set to be published worldwide at an unspecified later date.

This would be wicked if it was Ninja Gaiden.  That is all.

Oh man, I wish Ninja Gaiden or Tenchu Z would make it to PC!

DOA was fun back in the day.

I say that the stupid boobs get in the way of what's really a great fighting game.  Few people give DOA the credit it actually deserves for being a super fun and intense multiplayer game.  I can't think of any fighter I'd rather play with a friend just because of how frantic the counter moves make a match.  I wish the game wasn't so oversexed, then maybe people wouldn't diss it so much.

Anyway, seems an odd choice to bring to the PC.  I wonder what prompted the idea.

I haven't played a fighting game on a "PC" since Fists of Fury on the C64.  Gotta say, I don't see that has changing any time soon.

But I'm drunk, presently, and wouldn't mind seeing a nipple hatch on my monitor.

I'm guessing that they probably looked at the PC market and Team Ninja said this -- "Something's been missing all these years from the PC genre, over the years: the beat-'em-up genre. We have a well-recognized game in DOA in the consoles, which many respect. Why not try it on the PC? I think we can take this genre by storm and show PC companies how to do a brawler; especially since there's pretty much no competition in this genre on the PC. "

Also, with X360's equipped w/ Microsoft control pads that you can actually plug into your PC to use as a PC gamepad and also w/ the various amount of PC controllers out there as it already is, they probably realized that they can easily tap right into a market that doesn't even really exist into the PC. Team Ninja will basically win this market by default, since there's no competition in this market on the PC, currently.

Okay, go ahead -- name the last beat 'em up that was on the PC; maybe Mortal Kombat 4???!?! Wasn't there some other brawler w/ robots on the PC? Can't think of the name of that one -- but, that was long ago, if I recall. I think it was -- yeah, One Must Fall: Battlegrounds?!?!?

Also, let's think about this. A brawler is usually played best w/ multiple players -- often, it's done in the same house; the console specialized w/ this. W/ a PC, that's not likely going to happen -- too many people cramped in front of one PC is not comfy....
...SF for The X-Box got a special version, in which you could play it online. Why not bring that kind of game over to the PC??? See, the PC has always had this really crazy multiplayer atmosphere, which is often seen in FPS games, where numerous players battle each other online from all over the country and world -- sometimes in games of 32 players and even 64 players! Even more, if you bring the MMO into this --and, while I'm on that matter, nobody does the MMO better than the PC, either. So, what would be a better place to play a brawler than on a crazy multiplayer atmosphere online like the Internet?

Let's just hope DOA doesn't join Windows Live....We really could use a brawler on here, in which you can play against opponents all over any computer you can think of. Oh, and my PC control pad wouldn't mind being used for another game, as well! :)

I think Team Ninja had made a smart decision, if you ask me.

i wouldn't be suprised if this isn't actually a beat em up at all. the DOA franchise has those vollyball / dressup / wtf games as well, and they would probably fit the online model better (trading bikinis and other stupid shit).

of course i'm only speculating, but for some reason i find the above more likely than a fully fledged beat em up coming to the pc.

I think it's a good bet it will join windows live.  It just makes sense to have that kind of unified mp expierience when dealing with a game like this.  And the last game I can think of that was a fighting game on the pc would be Guilty Gear X.  I didn't take to it as much on the PC as the DC.

I have the GGX2 PC version somewhere.  Never could find a place to actually buy it, despite looking like crazy.
