So what do you expect is the proper standard time frame for someone to reply to your email. Assuming it's to someone you know well and is not particularly urgent (otherwise you'd use a phone).

And in comparison, how long (on average) does it take someone to send a reply now?

It depends, most of my e-mails I send are to people/tas/profs at my university, so I expect one in < a week

Usually a 24 hour period.  Most of my emails are to professors, so hopefully they get back to me as soon as possible.  Ehh.  Otherwise, don't really have a set period.

To someone's work email -- within 1 business day, unless I'm expecting a long reply.
To someone's personal email -- within 2-3 days.
To a support query -- I'll be happy if I get a human response at all.

I usually expect a response within about a week no matter where it is sent.

Work Related - within an hour.... but I have a fast paced job.
Otherwise, a day is fine.

I say a month, but I basically never use email.  Like, at all.

When I was working, I expected replies within a couple of hours.
For class-related stuff and professor collaboration, I expect within 24 hours.

With other stuff, in a few days.

And Antares, if you haven't checked your hotmail in over a month, it is cancelled and all emails are deleted.  The account is still reserved for you, but you'll have to reactivate it.

depends who am sending it too.. work related usually right away or within a couple hours - unless i IM the person to tell them to reply asap.

If family, usually a day or more

If friends.. varies.. but i like getting replies asap.

Taken.

One day generally for formal matters. Usually everyone checks thier email here on a daily basis, because professors sometimes email that class is cancelled. Professors usually email me back in a matter of hours, though I usually expect a reply within the day.
