Postal 3

So I "got" Postal 3, I actually really enjoyed two. I know a lot of you hated it, but I think you took the game too seriously. it seems most people had a problem with the story (or lack thereof), but this game was about visceral actions and doing what you want. Which takes me to Postal 3.

When it comes to a sequel of Postal 2, not much is needed to be done, add some new weapons/violence/graphics/crude jokes and you're good to go. However, after spending about an hour with this newest version, they found a way to mess it up. What I loved about the P2, was that the game just dropped you off, gave you some tasks and let you complete them as you see fit. In P3, they've given you rules about completing such tasks (so far).

I'm only on the second task, but so far both of them have been "protect this NPC" without giving you actual weapons. Shooting cum rags at pissed off prudes was fun the first time I failed the mission, not the eight time. The second mission is almost taken directly from P2, but instead of being able to kill the celeb, in P3 you have to protect a porn star...and not kill anyone or the cops come. Oh and if the person you're protecting dies, you fail the mission and have to start over.

What I'm trying to say is...how did they fuck up this sequel? P2 wasn't that great, but it was fun because you could do just about whatever you wanted and not have restrictions like "mission failure". Even when you did screw up, you couldn't fail, you just found a new way to complete the mission.

They also took away the first person perspective and used third person. This is implemented horribly because the Postal Dude is big on screen and takes up a lot of space. He also is never opaque, so expect a lot of fighting the camera.

I bought a new computer a couple of months ago, a new graphics card this week. This game still chugs along and gets choppy quite often. It gets even worse when a lot of characters are on screen, which happens a lot.

I didn't expect this game to be great, but how did they mess it up this badly?

You should have checked that out first, man. It's an absolute disaster. I actually thought 2 was dumb fun, but yeah, Giantbomb did a quick look and it was just awful, awful, awful.

I heard there was a patch that added first person and a free roam mode. I spent more time trying to get the patch to work than I actually spent playing the patch. Postal 3 is not "gone", lets never speak of this again...
