Hitman 3 announced

Heck yeah!
You'll be able to import your Hitman 1 and 2 levels into 3, and it seems like progress will carry over. I'm so excited, this trilogy of Hitman games have been so good.

I have always been a fan of the Hitman series, and the current iterations have been a lot of fun, with very well designed levels and gameplay mechanics. I will be looking forward to this one.

My one complaint is that they need to optimize the size of the game. Currently, Hitman 2 is taking 150GB on my hard drive.

Hitman III will be an Epic Games store timed-exclusive for 12 months. I can understand why they may have decided to do that as IOI is developing and publishing the game themselves. That is disappointing nevertheless though since I would assume that most PC players will have the game on Steam. For me at least, all of my previous Hitman games are on Steam so in order to ensure I get all previous Hitman levels on the latest game, I'll have to wait for the Steam version to be released.

They have said that the level unlocks and progress will transfer from Steam to Epic, I'm assuming through the IOI account though details haven't been released yet.

Interestingly, they cut the install size in half. Hitman 2 is 149GB right now which includes all the Hitman 1 content. Hitman 3 will be roughly half that size while still including all the content from the previous games. Amazing.

ok well forget what I said about unlocking the levels. https://www.ioi.dk/hitman-3-pre-launch-guide/

Quote
HITMAN 3 Access Pass on PC
We’ve done everything possible to make this process smooth and player-friendly. However, due to various circumstances out of our control, we want to acknowledge that the process is different to our initial plans for PC players. We also want to share some of the initiatives we’ve set-up to make sure that PC players the chance to keep enjoying the benefits of the World of Assassination.

The HITMAN 1 GOTY Access Pass will be available to claim in the first 10 days after launch for anyone who purchases (or has pre-ordered) any edition of HITMAN 3 on Epic Games Store.

Owners of HITMAN 1 on EGS (including all players who claimed it when it was available for free in August) will get a free upgrade to the HITMAN 1 GOTY Access Pass at any time after purchasing HITMAN 3.

The HITMAN 2 Standard Access Pass and HITMAN 2 Gold Access Pass will be 80% off for 14 days after the launch of HITMAN 3 on Epic Games Store and will continue to be discounted regularly.

Our hope is that these initiatives help to ensure all HITMAN 3 PC players can able to enjoy the new game with full access to HITMAN 1 and their progression carried over as a minimum.

So it seems your *progress* will carry over with the IOI account, but the levels actually being unlocked will not. Which sucks ass.

Depending, this might be a great time for me to jump back in. I played ... I dunno, 50% of the first game? And missed the 2nd completely. Sucks about all the confusion around unlocking stuff, though. I'll probably wait to see what things look like after a bit, and wait for a sale, I guess?

As much as I love the Hitman series, I am currently playing a whole bunch of other games presently so will wait on this a bit before picking it up.

Im also waiting. I wasnt going to pay full launch price anyway but I can wait a year, see it launch on Steam with a discount and then all my stuff transfers. I still have a lot of challenges left to do in the H1 and 2 content that will keep me busy.

Interesting update, it seems they heard the backlash loud and clear. An update to the page says:

HITMAN 3 Access Pass on PC

Update (17 January)

We are continuing to work on a solution with our partners to allow PC players who own HITMAN 1 or HITMAN 2 to import locations from those games into HITMAN 3 at no additional cost. We can guarantee that players will NOT need to repurchase the games.

Until we roll that out in the coming weeks, the HITMAN 1 GOTY Access Pass will be free to own for all PC players who pre-purchase or purchase HITMAN 3 in the first 10 days after release.

Epic retweeted the IOI tweet announcing this update and had this to add:
Quote
We never want players to feel forced to repurchase content on the Epic Game Store that they bought on another PC store so they can access features in a new game.

We are working closely with IO Interactive and you will be able to access past content from earlier HITMAN games.

Just finished-up Story Mode for Hitman 3 (2021) from Xbox for PC Game Pass, a bit earlier today.

It's basically more of their World of Assassination Trilogy games, basically - i.e. Hitman (2016), Hitman 2 (2018) & now obviously Hitman 3 (2021). So, you know mostly what you're walking into here, if you've played those games - and have a good idea of what your walking and stealth-ing your way into. More huge sandbox-y levels (mostly); more ways to kill enemies and targets; more unlocks; and/or more things of that sort - and if that sounds good to you, you're going to like this game.

Game looks stunning, provided you have RT-based hardware; no surprise. And at times, in some levels, it can be really stunning with how many NPC's they have packed all over the place, populating a level. I ran it mostly at Maxed-out settings with RT On & DLSS On at 1080p, often in the 60fps range. One level though, had to drop the RT down to Medium (Vineyard level) just to get it to 60fps, as it was easily splitting performance in half w/ so many NPC's in the world & with so much going on there.

As usual per modern Hitman games, you're scored per level against your Friends and also the Global Leaderboards - so, you'll likely want to try to play as Stealthy as possible, kill as few enemies as you can (best off killing namely your targets only); explore & find all of the areas; utilize cool and unique puzzle-style & puzzle-solving ways to kill targets in special ways; and/or things of that sort. It's up to you how to do this, of course, as combat still feels really good & very smooth here - so in some instances, when need be, you can shoot your way out of the level when necessary and then try to find an Exit ASAP. As usual, you can unlock new weapons, items, disguises, exits, and whatnot - once you actually finish levels...which is going to keep the replay value of this game going for fans of these games & this WoA Trilogy.

Though, unfortunately - like most Hitman games since Hitman (2016), you're going to need to be online to keep all of this progress, as you'll need to be tied into the IO Servers for this progress. I wish newer games would stop this trend, in case I want to play some of those offline in case something goes wrong on my end for Internet access, my ISP's end, or IO's servers on their end.

Though, taking a few cues from Hitman: Absolution here - there's a few though, there's not many of these missions or specific parts of missions - where there are very specific & special goals (i.e. missions you can kill enemies, for example and get points for that...if you want to); and they also do much more story elements even within levels that tie directly into the main story, besides just knocking off targets. Regardless, it feels like mostly all killer & no filler, like many of the earlier and great Hitman games, such as Hitman: Blood Money.

After almost 10 hours of so of spending time here, it feels like this epic World of Assassination Trilogy (WoA Trilogy) here that began since Hitman (2016) has finally concluded & is indeed nothing short of Hitman awesome-ness. Not only that, but this is a satisfying conclusion to the WoA Trilogy. Play this game; IO Interactive has yet again killed it here...with yet another really good Hitman game.
