Where is the "Iron Man" thread?
« on: Tuesday, May 06, 2008, 08:36:10 PM »
Well, I went and saw it tonight. As far as super hero movies go. Damn, it was pretty top. Nothing really strikes me at the moment as being bad. I'd actually say it's one of the better comic movies I've seen. It was done really well, and I really like Downy as Stark. Pretty pimp movie.

My boss, a 50 year old woman, loved this movie.  She said she fully expected to take a nap but she was on the edge of her seat.  I haven't seen it.

I saw this a few days ago, it was pretty good.  There's a scene after the credits I didn't much care for though.

It would be almost impossible for this to interest me less than it does.

I had no interest in this either but I enjoy superhero movies and everybody seems to say this one is awesome.

Yeah, I don't doubt that it's good.  It doesn't really look too bad.  I just... don't care.  Which is good.  I don't have tons of time or money and the more I can put both towards other things, the better.

something out there actually manages to be both good as well as popular, so right on que, Que hates it for no reason.

I saw it a few days ago, I was really impressed.  I stuck around for a while during the credits, but I guess I missed the scene.  What was it about?

I don't hate it for no reason.  I don't even hate it.  I just don't want to see it.  I've had well over twice my fill of superhero movies lately and I just really don't want to watch another one.  Maybe in a year.

So I ended up seeing this.  My friend wanted to get together and we couldn't think of anything to do, so he suggested we try it.  Julia came too, and all three of us ended up pretty much just loving it.  It wasn't really an amazing movie in any particular regard, it was just... different.  It wasn't really just another superhero movie, and it actually hearkened back to the earlier days of comics in how it tied into current events.  It got way more comic booky toward the end, to the point of being a bit silly, but it was still just really good fun, really well done, well acted, what have you.  Dumb fun, but shamelessly entertaining like I haven't seen in some time, and just intelligent enough to make you smile when you need to.

Ditto.

I might have been interested if I wasn't mindfucked by advertisements for it every 10 minutes.

Yeah, that always gets to me too.  I really wasn't expecting to like the movie that much.  I don't think Julia or my friend Paul really wanted to see it that much either, but all of us came out of the theater surprised.

Just watched this.
Yeah, Iron Man pretty much kicked ass.

One of the better super-hero movies with Marvel's name plastered on it, for sure.

I saw this yesterday in high def.  It's definitely a good movie, but it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be.  I guess I just heard a lot of amazing things about it so I had high expectations.  It's definitely one of the better Marvel films, but The Dark Knight this is not.

Oh no, nowhere near.  But if you're expecting drivel, this turns out to be much better than that.

Name how many comic book movies are as amazing as The Dark Knight was...
Good luck....

It was overhyped, and it didn't live up to that.  But it definitely is one of the better comic-book/superhero movies out there.  I recommend it.

Every time I thought of this movie, I kept thinking "Why Robert Downey Jr.?"  I mean I think he's a great actor and a perfect fit for many parts but this?

Then I saw the movie and that ended that.  He was great.

I'm about where Cobra is in terms of my overall impression of the movie.

I thought it was fantastic casting when announced a few years ago.

Howard Hughes look?

Check.

Smug/Cocky attitude + Swaggering walk?

Check.

Stubborn streak?

Check.

Mid 30's age?

Check.

History of substance abuse? ... Check.

He did a very credible job.  That is what elevates the movie above the inane norm.  I also love Gwyneth Paltrow.  I think she's the closest thing we have now to Grace Kelly.  Not quite, but she will do.

She wears a bit too much humility for Grace Kelly, or maybe just isn't quite as glamarous, or maybe that's just my skewed perception of time being a bit younger.  Either way, both of them are A-OK in my book.

I'd like to see this again.  I'll probably pick it up on Blu-ray at some point.  I can picture it being something I'd return to just for the fun of it now and again.  I really did enjoy it.

Yeah, basically, Robert Downey, Jr. played....himself....
Shouldn't be that much of stretch for him.

Just like how Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men plays....himself...

Or how Jack Nicholson plays himself in every fucking role.
