Best place to go for video card drivers?
« on: Saturday, September 13, 2008, 10:50:22 AM »
I want to update my drivers, but I've heard that the drivers I would get on ATI or Sapphire's sites may be a few updates old. Is there a better tplace I should check for driver updates?

In my experience, the fastest updates always came from ATi.

There was site I used to go to that would have all the latest ones, including beta drivers. this was close to 10 years ago though, I think. Even if I could remember the site name, it's probably not there anymore.

For ATi? Could it be Rage3D?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.  Omega drivers are good as well.

I don't remember, that could be it. I just got the ones from sapphire's site, which I'm pretty sure are the same ones I already had.

Tweakguides.com usually lists all sorts of updates relatively fast. Drivers, software updates, game patches, etc.

I usually just go to the manufacturer sites for hardware driver updates.

I don't think I've upgraded my video card drivers for years. I suggest downgrading.

Haha!  Same here.  All I could possibly accomplish is to get saddled with a bunch of code that is useless to my older card.

I tried to upgrade my video card drivers a year or so ago and Dell wouldn't let me. I thought I was just stupid at first, so I did a little research. Turns out that people in my situation all have the same problem. I forget exactly what the error message is but it's pretty absurd.  I wish I could find the exact reasoning because it was really funny.

I could reformat and get rid of the bullshit but it's not really worth it. I don't really game on this laptop anyways, so it's no big deal.

I thought about upgrading the drivers on my HP, but then kind of thought about it and was all like "what's the point?  The "high end" intel onboard chip sucks balls anyways".

Well, my laptop actually has an ATI card. I think it's a Radeon Mobility. So I at least assumed that it could be upgraded. With an onboard chip it's kind of a losing battle.

You know, it's pretty easy (but still very expensive) to upgrade laptop CPUs now, why not have the same kind of thing going with GPUs?
