I knew about Darfur.  But what the heck can I do other than get depressed about belonging to this very flawed primate species?  The UN is supposed to be in charge of things like that, and as usual, they're powerless.  So now the US is supposed to take on yet another fight?  It's not going to happen.  Obama may see it differently, given his heritage.  I don't know.  I hope not, at least not until Iraq is behind us.

Obama knows where his priorities are. As much as I want us to spend money on them, we do have some very serious matters to deal with at the moment.

It is incredibly sad, though. I'm taking an African politics course and the entire continent is nothing but depressing. Even the few good leaders (Mandella, for instance) are seriously hampered by the incompetence of the political system(s).
