Would anyone want to do a backlog game month?
« on: Monday, March 16, 2009, 10:16:28 PM »
I don't want to shit on your idea Que but I was wondering that instead of everybody buying the game to play, maybe we can just choose one of the many games a lot of us have backlogged. I'd even be willing to play through games again that a number of people haven't. Each of us can put up a list of our backlogs and we can choose from there. What do you think?

Not a bad idea, and useful, too.  My idea wasn't really my idea anyway... it was idol and my idea, and it didn't seem like that many people cared.  This could potentially be just as entertaining.  And boy is my backlog huge...

You mean backlog of multiplayer games we can play together, or backlog of all games we can play on our own and then compare notes?

With no money, a backlog is all I have, so it sounds intriguing.

I like the idea. I just reinstalled Mass Effect and started playing again (except on the hardest difficulty) since Que began the game.

I also reinstalled Bioshock mainly just to compare and contrast the DX9 vs DX10 for myself and I kinda missed it too.

Well, I am working on Deus Ex for the first time.  Game's pretty unforgiving, even on the easier difficulty.

And yeah, I'd be all about this.  We'd have to go pretty far back for my backlog though.

Okay, here goes.  Wish me luck.

PS2 -

Bujingai - The Forsaken City - found used, never tried.
Chaos Legion - No idea if it's any good, but it looked pretty fun.  Got it cheap, never tried it.
Devil May Cry 3 - Got into it a fair ways.  Great game, but only for the hardcore.  I *think* I'm a bad enough dude...
Final Fantasy XII - been playing for years, near the end, but trying to finish every last sidequest before I finish.
Ghost Hunter - got a ways in but couldn't get past one part, had no internet to check GameFAQs at the time.
God Hand - only put in a couple hours.
Gungrave Overdose - beat the woeful original, found this souped-up edition cheap, still haven't tried it.
Jak and Daxter - Precursor Legacy - found it used, still haven't tried it.
Kya - Dark Lineage - cheap, still haven't tried.
La Pucelle Tactics - got it almost free, haven't tried.
Metal Gear Solid 2 - love the franchise, but I can't get past this one.  So ungodly boring.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - gotta' make it through 2 first.
Odin Sphere - played for about 5 minutes.  Such an awesome game, but the timing was wrong when I bought it.
Okami - I KNOW, okay?  I love it, I've played through 3/4 of it like 3 times now, but I still haven't beaten it.
Persona 3 - been working on it on and off for a while.  Haven't had the time for RPGs.
Persona 4 - I'd love to, but... yeah.  These are the games Julia's into hardcore.  I want to get to them, but... time.
The Red Star - DAMN IT.  I knew there was something I wanted to play with Pyro during the meet.
Rogue Galaxy - much like KotOR, the opening sections bored me so much I never got past them.
Steambot Chronicles - I really want to get into this.  Been waiting for the right time.

Xbox -

Darkwatch - Took me a long time to find, and I played more than half when I finally found it, but then I think Bioshock or something took over right after.
Fatal Frame - almost beat it, but hard times at work stopped me.
Fatal Frame 2 - still waiting to beat the first.
Gunvalkyrie - launch title, I think.  Found it used years later, but the Xbox wasn't hooked up at the time.  Haven't tried it.
Jet Set Radio Future - played the hell out of it, but never did beat it.
Kingdom Under Fire - The Crusaders - fantasy army battles with heavy metal?  Yes please!  Haven't tried since I got it off ebay since the Xbox isn't hooked up (still).
Otogi 2 - only played a tiny bit.
Panzer Dragoon Orta - loved what I played, but it started kicking my ass at one point and I got demoralized.
Phantom Dust - got it on the recommendation of Folk, but never got around to playing it.
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy - gpw gave it to me, and I enjoyed playing it, but some AAA title came out and distracted me from finishing.
Soul Calibur II - barely touched in any capacity.

Xbox 360 -

Assassin's Creed - still haven't finished it.  Got utterly bored with it at about 2/3 of the way through.
Devil May Cry 4 - not as hardcore as the third game, but I enjoyed Nero so much that switching to Dante halfway through seemed... shitty.
Eternal Sonata - another RPG I didn't end up having time for.
Fable II - should try to finish.  I enjoyed the time I spent with it quite a bit.

PS3 -

Folklore - I love this game so much.  I don't know why I keep putting off the remaining 3/4.  Every time I think of it I want to play it, and I just end up getting distracted by something else.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - only played a bit of it during the 2008 OWmeet.  Enjoyed it a lot, need to get back to it.
Uncharted - almost finished it, got distracted.
Valkyria Chronicles - FUCK YOU MISSION 7.  If only I'd known you could save mid-mission...
Viking - I actually like this.  Reviews were middling, but it's great mindless fun on an epic scale.  Who needs a steady framerate?

PSP -

This one's gonna' hurt.

Castlevania - Dracula X Chronicles - currently playing!!! JOIN ME and the BIGASS CASTLEVANIA THREAD (seriously).
Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - did enjoy what I played, but the FFVII fever wore off at some point.
Crush - it got hard and I couldn't solve a puzzle in the time it took to take a bathroom break at work.
Dead Head Fred - parts were pure genius, parts were sort of lame.  I'd like to see more of it, though.  It was fun.
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness - played it more than 40 hours, but I can't stop doing side stuff.  Need to just work on the story.
EXIT - still haven't tried it!
Final Fantasy Tactics - the War of the Lions - amazing game, but fucking hard and a fucking time sink.  I need moral support for this one.
God of War - Chains of Olympus - almost beat it, got annoyed at something.  Want to play through again.
Gurumin - A Monstrous Adventure - so much cute you could choke on it.  Fun, but I didn't get that far.
Jeanne d'Arc - wonderful SRPG.  Got really far and was pissed at the time limit on a cheap boss.  Need to finish, this is a fantastic game.
LocoRoco - I know, I still haven't finished it.  I suck.
Metal Gear Solid - Portable Ops - gotta' finish 2 and 3 first!  ARG.
Patapon - played it a lot, but eventually tired of the grind.  Still want to beat it.
Tokobot - found it cheap used, haven't played it.
Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins - great game!  Just never quite finished.  It's hard.
Valkyrie Profile - found it used, always wanted to play it, but haven't had the time to invest.

DS -

Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow - yet to come, but soonish.
Castlevania - Order of Ecclesia - currently playing, and it's fucking awesome.  Join me!  And, you know, the BIGASS CASTLEVANIA THREAD.
Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin - soon to come!  After I finish Circle of the Moon and Ecclesia.
Children of Mana - one of the few Mana games I haven't finished.
Contra 4 - hardcore awesome, but I haven't quite finished it.
Final Fantasy XII - Revenant Wings - story didn't entice me so much, but the game itself is actually really great.  Need to get back to it.
Lunar Knights - got it cheap, didn't stick with it.  Good fun Zelda-esque fun, though.
Mystery Dungeon - Shiren the Wanderer - idol knows why I haven't finished it.  I love it, but we should all play it together.  More fun that way!
Orcs & Elves - great game, and quite short.  Was on a marathon at work and... bad work stuff happened.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village - awesome game.  I still play it on and off with regularity.
The World Ends With You - Love this, don't know what stopped me from continuing.

PC -

Doom 3 - Resurrection of Evil - only played maybe an hour and a half or two hours of it.
STALKER - this would be a kick ass game to do as a group.  I know lots of us haven't finished it or have yet to dig in.
The Witcher - Got so far, then restarted when EE came out.  I love the game, but I lost momentum on my 2nd time through the 2nd chapter.  Need to keep at it, the game is phenomenal.
World of Goo - only beat the first chapter.
Mount and Blade - played a shit ton of it, but still haven't achieved anything near what I need to if I'm going to see the higher-tier stuff.  The game is so deep and dense.
Crysis - I don't actually have it, but I've been considering getting it.
The Experiment - just picked it up cheap from GoGamer.  Hasn't even come yet.
Syberia - only played a bit.
Syberia 2 - got it cheap, obviously haven't tried it yet.
Freespace 2 - Sy is going to kill me if I don't get to this at some point.  He even gave me a joystick for it.

So that's the big list.  I'm also currently working on, as I've said, the Castlevania games I haven't played, or haven't finished, or just want to play through again.  That's all the GBA games (currently on Circle of the Moon to start), all the DS games (beginning with Order of Ecclesia), and then the PS2 3D entries (Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, the latter of which I don't even have a copy of yet).  I'm definitely starting here, and anyone that wants to join me in my Castlevania insanity totally should.  Because it's awesome.

Shit, this probably isn't even a quarter of the PC games I actually have backlogged.  But I couldn't bear to sort through the archives to look at the whole thing.

Well, if you read the descriptions you'll find that half of those games I did play through nearly to the end or otherwise invested good chunks of time into, and a lot of them were deals I grabbed on the cheap, not because I necessarily had time to play them right away.  And I do routinely play old games at the expense of new ones, as my gaming diet is generally further from the big AAA titles and more toward obscure stuff that I missed in times passed.  It isn't quite as bad as it looks.  A few of them are even more my wife's games that I came to want to play after seeing her play them.

I really need to finish up God Hand.  Pyro and I laughed heartily while playing it.  It's about as close to a unintentionally hilarious B-movie as I've ever seen a game get.

Uh yeah.  Seriously need to do this.

Same here, I've worked up a little bit of a backlog with all the games I bought last year (mainly PS2 titles that I was buying before they got impossible to find).  Summer time is the perfect time to catch up on them since hardly any games are coming out in the next couple of months that I'm interested in (except for BlazBlue Continuum Shift).
