"Still" a virgin at 14.  Imagine that.

Quote
Judge Jonathan Teare said he would spare the father jail because of his excellent character and that he believed he did not mean any harm to his son.

What exactly constitutes an "excellent character" these days?

Not taking your son's virginity yourself, apparently.

*Sigh*  Not that this makes him father of the year of anything, but good God has the world changed.  Encouraging a teenage boy to get some loving has long been a clandestine joyful subject among males.  Now look at this shit.  OK, hooker is a misstep.  But come on.  The sex with minors laws are there to protect mostly girls from animals.  A boy that age sleeping with a hot 25-year-old teacher should be something to grin about for life.

The world hasn't changed.  Some people have always felt that sex was worth little and could be thrown around for shits and giggles as recreation, while some people have always felt it should be respected and elevated.  Just because I'm of the latter camp doesn't mean jack shit has changed.  Do you think in the 40s it would have been high-fives all around because some douchebag tried to buy a hooker for his son?

No.  I think sexual attitudes were and are still supposed to be a private matter, not something for the state to meddle in.  You are allowed to think whatever you want about it.  So am I.

True.  But you come work for the department of child support and see how long your ideology lasts.  Not because I believe in government meddling, mind you, but because I know exactly what happens when you allow people to live without the expectation of consequences.  And, unfortunately, that's exactly what our government allows half of them (the lucky half) to do.

The department of child support is an evil abomination, even without bringing sex into it.   :P

Oh, we don't disagree there.  One of the most evil entities that exist.  However, it's more evil once you bring sex into it, because it actually works toward proving both our points.  Firstly, it concerns governmental control over the individual.  This would be more toward what you talk about.  For me, however, I see it as basically providing government-sanctioned promiscuity.  Women (mostly) can get away with having children, and no matter how disgusting, despicable, remorseless the circumstance, there's a way for them to be provided for.  The idea is, of course, to force certain parties into being responsible, but what this has essentially done is remove any need for the other party to be responsible in any capacity, which is what leads to situations like the same woman having 5 or 6 cases with different men.  Or literally watching 3 generations of fathers and sons wind up with cases, where one that was once a dependent later becomes a so-called "non-custodial parent", and his child after him.  Nobody learns anything from the process because it punishes certain people in ways that are proven not to help or improve behavior in any capacity, and then doesn't punish certain others at all or put any restrictions on their future behavior.  Or even what they do with the fucking money.

So yeah, it's sick, but for more than one reason.  While it does provide the benefit of recouping some welfare money, and does sometimes catch a jerkoff who really does one over on his spouse, those are definitely the exceptions.  Which is very, very unfortunate.

My status with those fuckers borders on the unbelievable.  You know they suspended my driver's license after 2 months of arrears, even though I paid for 5 years, and overpaid for the last 4 of them.  Now I have filed a motion to reduce it, but my ex brings in this lawyer who is trying to get my payment *raised*.  The bugaboo here is imputed income.  It doesn't matter what I really earn.  All that matters is what the court decides I *should* be making.  Zero income is unacceptable, and I already know I'm going to have at least minimum wage imputed to me.  This lawyer is claiming that because of my education and experience, I should be making more than what the payments are already based on.  If the court ends up agreeing with him, the state-enforced extortion will increase to new heights.  When I can't pay, they may not corner me and beat me up, but they might lock me up someplace where people will do that to me for fun.

I really don't think that will happen, but it's a possibility.  In the meantime, the legal bills are racking up.

The dictatorial fun of liberalism at work, unfortunately.  I sympathize with you, I really do, and I wish there was more I could do to help.  It's too bad your ex is apparently an unreasonable bitch.  It's definitely not fun when they really try to reach for the "you should be doing xxx" argument, which is utterly fucking ridiculous, because again, there's never any expectation levied against the other party.  They could throw all the money on a horse or two at the track and nobody would tell them any different.

All I can do is apologize for the government.  Though I can't really even do that, since despite my current position, I've never agreed with, supported, or voted for anything that got us here.
