From Idol's link:

If you were relying on Crytek to stress your new AMD or NVIDIA GPUs, well, you will likely have to wait another 4 years, or never probably.

Uh, no. I was counting on it not stressing my hardware at all!! I have pretty decent hardware if it did I'd be pretty pissed! Maybe I have to be a graphics card junkie or something to appreciate that statement but if I can't run a game optimally I lose interest quickly.

Destructoid -> Crysis 2 sells BIG at Retail...on the 360.

Meanwhile, on the PC on Steam, your big #1 seller is Crysis 2 there.
I'd be very curious to see what the digital sales numbers for Crysis 2 PC are...

Amazon.com's #3 download is Crysis 2 PC.

I just realized that Crysis 2 seems to parallel Metal Gear Solid or at least indirectly reference it.

The points I've noticed that really made me think of MGS:

1. Intro: start up in a submarine.
2. Suit camouflage - stealth suit
3. Codec communication
4. Binocular scouting moments
5. Potential spoiler for both games
(click to show/hide)
6. Convoluted story lines.
7. And of course, the over-the-top high-end graphics.

I just get the feeling that Crytek are wink-nudging at it.

Just been reading through some articles, commentary, and forum posts.. Holy crap people are bitching wildly about the lack DX11! I don't understand why it's such a huge issue!

I agree that Crysis 2 lacking advanced configuration options is crap, I like to tweak and tinker with my settings to find the ideal balance for my system. But Crysis 2 being DX9 only is not such a big deal for me, I'm actually impressed! It's a testament to what Crytek are able to pull with DX9 alone! Makes me wonder "what the heck were all the other shooter developers doing?"

The criticism on Crysis 2 PC is intense but in my opinion a good chunk of it is uncalled for, crap like "No DX11?! Oh my God this game suuuucks!!" is not constructive criticism and as far as I'm concerned is completely baseless. The more crap I hear about it the more strongly I support Crytek's position.

People expect games from Crytek and DICE to be running the newest versions of DX and have the most cutting-edge stuff to make their graphics blow everything else out of the water.

Plus - Crysis 1 actually had DX10 support.

Supposedly DX10 and 11 had improvements in the "calling" and "passing" sequences. Much improved performance, in comparison to DX9 - see the whole Assassin's Creed 1 PC fiasco, where DX10 was blowing DX9 versions out of the water. So much so, that DX10 support got removed in a Patch, since AMD were going to pull their logo from the game b/c NVidia cards were pouncing it [since only they had DX10 cards at that time available].

Plus, DX10 and 11 were built for multi-threaded processors.

I'm sure those w/ high-end rigs really want to pump-up things w/ everything - including AO and Tessellation...

I don't think people would've bitched so much, if additional DX10 support was in Crysis 2 PC - especially since DX10 support was in the original Crysis games.

Hell, even Dragon Age 2 has DX11 support.

By the time the next gen does come out, that number may be realistic.  In the meantime, he needs to learn to live within his means.  Or not.  He can just stick to the high-end PC market.  No one is forcing him to make console games.

YES! Exactly. Crytek like to 'cry' about the PC and the criticisms they get for going overboard with technical specs or going way down low, they can't seem to settle in a comfortable middle ground.

Honestly, I have no qualms about the technology in Crysis 2, it's pretty damn impressive what they were able to pull off with DX9 only.

Looks like now console gaming is on the table for Crytek to "cry" about. :P
Seems like nothing can make these guys happy... ;)

Crytek speaks about Crysis 2 PC - the DX11 Patch coming next Monday and the "backfire" on the PC version.

Quote
Crytek's decision to make Crysis 2 more accessible to low-spec PC gamers and their console brethren might have been a mistake, reckons the studio's CEO.

Cevat Yerli told Gamasutra that the move upset a significant portion of the shooter's fanbase, something that it's now trying to remedy with the impending DirectX 11 patch.

"Crysis 1's intention was, if I were to play it three years later, it looks great. And it does, actually, it fulfilled that. But it made it difficult for entry-level players," he explained. "So with Crysis 2, we took a different direction, and it backfired a little bit."

As detailed earlier this week, the DX 11 patch arrives on 27th June alongside update 1.9.

"This is much more like a gift to the high-end community," said Yerli. "And I think gamers will appreciate that. It lifts up Crysis 2 and gives a sneak peak of how PC gaming will evolve in the future, if you support a high-end preference."

The original Crysis was infamously demanding on PC users' hardware, and was one of the first games to use the Direct3D 10 framework of DirectX 10.

Yeah, I bought Crysis 2 regular from them, a while back for $10.
I got my $20 coupon for Crysis 2: Maximum.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with it...yet.
I guess we have until July 1st...
