Yea I'm not getting this game until it is significantly cheaper.  It's $60 in Canada.

I got my hands on the game. Will also need a Portal buddy! What a coincidence? hehe My Steam name is also Xessive.

I like the game so far but that crap with the paid DLC is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Metacritic is getting bombarded with negative reviews talking about the DLC and how short the game is.

1Up -> Portal 2 - Day One DLC controversy and "consolization" of the PC version.
G4TV -> Teacher cancels class due to Portal 2's release.

G4TV -> Portal 2 Review - 5 stars (out of 5).

It’s Hard To Overstate My Satisfaction

The single player clocks in at around 8-10 hours, and is a satisfying amount of game for the money. Additionally, you get around 7 hours of co-op game play with no AI option -  you can only play with a real person either in split-screen or online.

If you have the PS3 version, you can play over PSN, or you can log into your Steam account and play with your Steam friends. You also receive a code for a free PC and Mac copy of Portal 2.

If you buy the Xbox version you will not receive a code for a free PC or Mac copy, and you will not be able to play with Steam, but you will be able to access co-op through Xbox Live.

So, all the DLC stuff people complaining about....
Is there anything that makes an impact on the actual gameplay of the game there?
Any new missions/levels in there for sale?

Nope, it's all just cosmetic crap: hats, skins, gestures, etc.

The gestures being for sale is the weirdest one in my opinion.

If it was stuff that had impact on the game and/or new levels being sold for DLC, I'd be bullshit. But, this stuff is not really that big of a deal, if you ask me.

Sames goes for all that cosmetic TF2 stuff sold in the Mann Co Store.

EDIT:
IGN -> 9.5 (out of 10).
GameSpot - 9.0 for console versions. - Video Review.; Written review.

It's weird seeing these differences in stated game length. That review says 8-10 hours of SP, but not a single unofficial player review I've read (even the positive ones) gave anything even close to that. I think the highest I saw was 6 hours. The worst I saw was 3.

It's awesome! Go get it.

The game is 10 chapters, I've been playing for around 4-5 hours and I just got to chapter 5. The game is hilarious at times, and just plain fun. It takes the same kind of puzzle solving from the first, and adds a whole bunch of fun stuff to it. Light bridges, bouncy gel, lens cubes to change the directions of lasers, catapults, and I think a couple other things that I have yet to see. The puzzle design is as great, and most of the time exceeds the designs in the first. Characters are great, voice acting is great, and the story is interesting. It just does a lot to flesh out the whole aperture science universe.

Thats my short review. I love it so far, and I have yet to touch the co-op. Have the day off tomorrow, gonna Portal it up!

I bought an Aperture Science mug and a t-shirt from valve...that I will be drinking coffee out of in the morning whilst wearing my sweet shirt.

I've read two reviews today including yours and both have really made me want this game. Dammit. I'm broke but I don't want to wait. Gonna drink enough beer that I don't care about the money and buy it on Steam.

I'm kind of tempted now after seeing some reviews.  I will still probably wait a while though because I've got a backlog to clear.

i can only echo what scary said - in other words it's bloody great. it's essentially a much bigger version of the original game, but instead of feeling watered down, or as if the original game's ideas have been spread a bit thin, it feels positively enriched.

Portal 2 with the Razer Hydra

Looks pretty interesting.

I don't remember any of those parts of Portal 2 at all! Especially not the portal device projecting objects like that!

After a marathon session I just finished off the game. I'm more or less happy with how it all turned out, but one thing bothered me throughout the game: load screens. They come up constantly and beyond what I'd consider acceptable (especially in a modern game coming from what should be a major developer). I'm not against load screens in between areas that are completely separate (in space and/or time), but here it just serves to pull you out the game. I'd guess this is a result of the Source engine getting up there in years, but at least HL and I think the original Portal got around it by just putting the little loading message on the bottom. However, when you're walking through a hallway, the screen cuts out for a logo screen to load the next area, and then goes back to the original image the effect is jarring. Elevator load screen are not as bad, but then you ride an elevator probably every five minute on average and areas are fairly small. Almost every other big developer has managed to find trick to effectively stream levels, but I guess Valve hasn't bothered.

But yeah, game proper is a lot of fun and most of the cave Johnson stuff is pretty brilliant. There was a lot of nice little visual treats too. I really dug all effort in making the environments look more alive and some of the destruction effects were among the best out there.

Cool.  Really well done.  How does she find the portal gun?  It's almost like she has some sort of revelation, but I don't understand why.

Yea that's the part I didn't understand either. I am guessing that the marks in the wall lead her to it?

So my stepson got this game for the 360. We're pretty far in on the co-op, which is brilliant by the way, and much more challenging than the single player.  I finished the single player campaign yesterday after a two-day marathon.  I'd say it took me about 8 hours, but I can't remember exactly how long it took.  I thought it was pretty amazing.  I never really got stuck in the single player for more than a minute or two (in comparison to the co-op where we regularly get stuck for 15 minutes or more) and I found the story to be much more substantial than in comparison to the original game.  I loved the Cave Johnson character and thought it was perfectly cast.

Definitely a great game.  I was sad to see in some research I did yesterday that Valve says Portal 2 will be their last single-player experience.  What is to become of the Half-Life and Portal series in the future?  I love those games.  Then again, I loved Starcraft and was disappointed with SCII, so maybe it is for the best.

Edit: Wow.  Was I drunk when I posted this?  Made some edits so it actually makes sense.

Really? Valve said that?

Huh. That's kind of a big deal. For all the shit I give them HL and Portal were genuinely good. It seems like they've determined it's easier to create a little context and throw together a multiplayer experience that will sell like hotcakes.

(I'm sure you meant "content".)  That's kinda what I thought.  It took me by surprise.  It's disturbing.
