GameInformer has for its July 2010 cover inFamous 2 for the PS3 only.
So, yeah - now we know for sure, inFamous 2 is in the works.

The expected sequel to Sucker Punch's electrifying PlayStation 3-exclusive inFamous has now been confirmed, as print publication Game Informer is featuring inFamous 2 on the cover of its July 2010 issue.

"A new look for hero Cole MacGrath is just the first step; a new city, new powers, and a powerful new foe" are among the changes featured in the sequel, with Game Informer promising that "you can read all about it our exclusive 10-page story."

No word yet as to a release window for the open-world action game sequel, but with the issue due soon and E3 2010 just around the corner, it's only a matter of time.

I tried the demo of the first from PSN. I don't know... it just didn't grab me. I'll probably end up buying it when it is cheap enough, to give it a proper go.

I picked up the first one recently and put a couple hours into it.  It's pretty good... just don't have that much time to play it nowadays though.

And pug, the game should be cheap now, it's Greatest Hits and has undergone a permanent price drop.
