Topic: Hitting up used game stores.

About 3 years ago Game Crazy stopped carrying any classic titles (pre ps2), which then essentially made them exactly the same as Gamestop.  They were really the only two chain stores in this area until a year or so ago when Play N Trade opened a store in the 'boro.  They actually carry classic titles.  All classic titles are confined to a small space in the middle of the store, but it's still enough to warrant looking through (plus the stock actually rotates so new stuff gets put in!).

Long story short, I found some titles I've been looking for to help round out my collection.  It was even buy two get one free!

SNES - Uniracers
SNES - Arcana
N64 - Shadowgate 64.

Shadowgate 64 got pretty universal lukewarm to bad reviews, but most of them were for the complete and utter lack of interaction with any living creature.  People who loved the original (like me) don't find this bothersome in the least.

Anyhow long story short.  Can any of you actually walk into a used game store in your area and find NES, SNES, etc titles?  Because for me it's a very rare thing anymore.

I ain't seen 16-bit games and before sold here in my area since probably FuncoLand was STILL in business, before GameStop/EB took them over at Westgate Mall...

Even when I actually had a Hollywood Video in Brockton (which has been GONE for a few years), they pretty much sold PSX and newer. I'm lucky these days if I see old Original PSX games at my local GameStop, these days.

It's been a long time since I've looked.  The last place I remember is a small store in a mall close to here.  Their business is classic systems and games.  I forget the store's name.  I can't even say if they're still in business.

Theres a Disc Replay that has some pre-PS2 games available. And at the Volo Auto Museum theres a room dedicated to the stuff that you can buy, except its kind of pricey.

Thank god for emulators is all I can say.

There are a number of stores around me all with a huge selection of classic games, although the selections have started to dwindle over the past few years since there are so many new games coming out.

Theres a place here that sells stuff as old as Atari and Intellivision games and even have a few old consoles for sale as well, but most of their stock is NES, SNES, and Genesis.  They have weird shit too, like 3DO and Virtual Boy games.

I'd say part of it too is the fact that most of the people that shop for the classic stuff are like me.  Collectors who get what they want and don't put the stuff back out there.

Belmont, we've got a store like that too in Cookeville where Pyro and I used to live.  Guy's terribly overpriced if you don't know him, but he's got everything from Lynx games to 3DO to stuff for the Turbografx 16.  In fact once I bought the first 25 issues of Nintendo power (including the strategy guides) that were in pristine condition for like 15 bucks.  Until that point I had never even seen issue 1.  One of our friends has gotten to know him pretty well though and he poaches most of the good stuff now.  He bought one of those rare 50 in 1 NES carts the other day for like 10 bucks.  Shit sells for like 200 on eBay.  Guy just holds every copy of Final Fantasy VII he gets now for our friend.  Unfortunately he's dying of cancer, so he won't be around much longer.
