OMG @ cheap Borderlands + DLC's.
Guys, if you ain't played BL + DLC's...prepare to rock on.

I ain't got Secret Armory DLC, though...I wish they'd put that on disc or discount it on their Gearbox store ALREADY!!!

EDIT:
Any of you guys played Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Bionic Commando (Sequel)?

Borderlands worth getting?

Freakin' awesome - take a FPS and Diablo 2's loot-whoring....
This is what you get.
What you get is basically what you get FPS/ARPG.
Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins were my two fav. games of 2009.

Favorite of 2009 eh? You must have missed "Demon's Souls"

It's going to take a while to download. Going to play Torchlight in the mean time. It has been a good week!

Did you get the Borderlands DLC's?

At $3.39 a piece...so cheap.

Dr. Ned DLC kicks ass.
I really ain't touched Moxxi DLC, even though I have it.

I ain't played General Knoxx DLC.

I've spent about $25 so far and I've got some cool stuff. But my favorite thing so far is Torchlight. It's just fun, and addicting. I've been running around these levels killing stuff and leveling my vanquisher. It's simple, straight forward and cool.

I've gotten Civ 4, Torchlight, and Borderlands is still downloading. Thinking about getting World of Goo.

So, I really like Borderlands, but it runs so bad on my computer. This is the first time it's actually shown it's age to me. Makes me sad. I guess I did build it like 4 or 5 years ago. I see an upgrade in the near future, as soon as I get some coin.

Dude, what's your PC's specs?

BL runs fine for me on my PC on 1024x768.

My PC = P4 3.2 Ghz single core processor with HT; 512 MB GeForce 8800 GT (with 197.45 drivers); Win XP Home; 2 GB RAM.

Let us know what you got for a rig - I'll see if I can help, if you're in that ballpark for specs.

Windows 7
Intel Core Duo 2 @2.13 GHz
2GB Ram
Geforce 7950 GT

I've turned everything down to low, and I'm running it at 1024x768

I mean, it's playable, but when there are 3 or more things on the screen at once it gets bogged down quite a bit.

Did you turn off Depth of Field?
I have that off on my Borderlands PC options, actually.
That probably will help A LOT.

EDIT:
I got BL booted....so, here's my settings on my PC.

Wow...I figure your PC should be running BL around what mine has for settings...

Did you turn AA down a bit? Maybe off completely?

Hmmm...Do you run GameBooster?
I run that in the background - and it basically shuts off all UNNECESSARY programs running in the background, as well - freeing RAM up. That program alone has helped me run games MUCH better - especially monsters RAM-hogs like Prototype PC and GTA4 PC.

Are you running some recent NVidia's drivers? I run the 197.xx's. The new 257.xx's are out; ain't tried those yet...I usually wait a bit, to see if those willing to test NVidia drivers report problems before installing newest ones....

EDIT:
Wow, I didn't realize BL's resolution goes as low as 640x480. There is also 800x600 and 720x576 for res's, as well. I'd hate to suggest those, but if none of the other stuff helps for your current PC, might have to try dropping the resolution, if you are willing to tolerate that...

So, I just figured it out. Had to restart the game for some of my settings to take affect...heh.

It's running way better now. I was actually able to set my texture quality to medium, and it runs pretty good. A little bit of slow down here and there, but not nearly as bad as it was. Just wish I could run it at a higher res.

Glad it runs better now. I figured it should, given your specs.

You still really might want to try GameBooster (it's like a 2MB download) and see if that does give enuff RAM back and helps out performance even more so, running it and making it shut down unnecessary stuff in the background.

Since you got it going now, enjoy Borderlands. :)

Your board should be PCIe, so I think with a couple of hundred dollars you should be good to go.

Yeah. I was thinking about dropping some money into it. Most cards I see are PCIe 2.0. Don't think my board supports that. I dunno, haven't done to much research or looking yet.

I am 99% sure they are compatible.

edit:

A quick Google search reveals that a PCI 2.0 card will have no problems running on a PCIe 1.0 board, but you should give it a deeper look before you take the plunge. Shouldn't be a problem though.

Your system is pretty similar to mine except I run XP and an 8800GT. I pretty much max out Borderlands without issue.

Yea games still lean almost fully on GPUs as long as the CPU is decent, and an 8800GT is a damn good card; much better than the 7950GT.

My specs are near identical to Scarys, though I've overclocked my C2D to 2.4 and have 4GB of RAM.

The difference is in the GPU. My 8800GTX, aside from a few games like Crysis, blows everything out of the water at 1080p.

I used to have 2GB RAM, until I upgraded to 4GB last year, and moved on to a 64bit OS, and the difference has only been in higher min. frames. For gaming, there is nothing like upgrading the video card.

My laptop has a core i5 with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and while it blows away my desktop when it comes to photo and video editing software, and encoding etc., it can't touch my desktop's gaming performance because of the significantly weaker GPU.
