Let Me In (Hollywood rendition of Let The Right One In)

Let me In

Hmm.. The original was great, I suppose this may bring it to a larger audience (primarily those who just won't read subtitles).

I hope they don't screw this one up.

I don't understand why American's have this need to remake things and neuter them. Everything has to be Americanized for people, and it's really kind of pathetic in a way. Stop being so closed minded, and stupid.

There is no way that will be as good as "Let the Right One In". That was one of my favorites of last year.

It came out before Twilight rekindled the whole vampire craze.  It was actually a fairly interesting movie.  Very un-Hollywood.

The original, Let the Right One In was a great movie.  I don't see Hollywood doing this film justice as a remake.

Money.

North America is the single biggest box office market in the world. Often, a movie will make 30 to 60 percent of its gross in N.A. alone, which is huge.

Here is the US all-time box office:

http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross

The world all-time:

http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross?region=world-wide

Both Spider-Man and Dark Knight made 50% of their total worldwide gross in North America alone.

If any other region were responsible for such huge percentages, I am sure we'd see localized versions for them as well.

For example, Bollywood is pretty huge in India. You often see remakes of Hollywood films in India, full of dance numbers and other stuff designed to appeal to the local market. I think they recently did an Indian version of The Godfather.

The reason I share your venom for it is because it ruins the artistic vision of the original film. And unfortunately, it seems that producers in North America believe that localized version in their region means dumbing it down.

WTF is up w/ remaking great Swedish films lately?  :o We don't need this Let Me In and we don't need an American Remake of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, while we're at it. The original films were great as they were.

Seriously - those USA publishers distributing great foreign films: just find a better way to market those great films to American masses. It's as simple as that.

I just saw the trailer: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/letmein/

It looks terrible.  Doesn't seem to contain anything from the original that made it good.

The Abu Dhabi Film Festival is going on and I had the opportunity to watch Let Me In last night!

It was pretty good! Quite faithful to the original film and book in its structure, it was only adapted to fit into the United States setting. It didn't feel like a typical Hollywood bastardization at all!

I also met the director, Matt Reed, yesterday. Nice guy, very down to earth.
