Can you believe it's been 25 years? Man.

Here's a little video celebrating the history of Mario.

Cool video.  That page nearly freezes Firefox here if I try to do anything beyond watching it, though.  Now I remember why I wasn't allowing some of the scripts there to run.  I still need to play New SMB Wii and Mario Galaxy 2 to be able to say I've played all of them.

Seems kind of like a lost opportunity for something so instrumental in gaming. Super Mario All Stars is a start, but they could have done stuff like Lucas Arts did in the Monkey Island remakes where you can play with the new or the old graphics. Mario Sunshine could get a Wii port where you aim with the Wiimote. Bring New Super Mario Bros (the DS version) to the Wii. It's not a lot of Mario stuff doesn't exist on the Wii at some level already, so even putting everything up to Super Mario Galaxy into a single package would have been awesome.

That gives them less to repackage and sell later

Well, yeah. However, if they put all that in a package at a premium price around that of a collector's edition, it might actually sell pretty well. Money now or money later. Someone's probably already run the numbers. Still, it would be more meaningful to put that all in a celebration package. If the creators of Mario had any input, I imagine they'd like that if Mario was more than a money printing machine to them.

Super Mario All Stars?  Really?
