The Gaga saga

In a metaphorical nutshell, here’s what happened.

I wrote and recorded what I thought was going to be the first single off of my new album: a parody of “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga called “Perform This Way.” But after hearing it, Lady Gaga decided not to give me permission to release the song, so… it won’t be coming out commercially anytime in the near future. Sorry.

I love Weird Al, and now I dislike Gaga even more.

Well, apparently this is still developing.

I think the backlash hit the Gaga camp and they are changing their minds. From TMZ:

But sources extremely close to the singer tell us, "There must have been a misunderstanding because [Gaga] is in no way trying to block the release of the parody."

According to sources, "She's busy touring and hasn't heard the song yet. Her manager hasn't had a chance to play it for her yet" -- adding, "She's a huge Weird Al fan."

I think that manager is going to be in some hot water if it turns out he was saying no all along.

He's very courteous to seek approval from the artists he lampoons.  He says parody falls under fair use, but it's really more than that.  It's specifically protected free speech.

Lady Gaga is such a strange person. I would assume she's more likely to cover the Weird Al song than disapprove of its creation.

But I also haven't heard her song and I'll probably never hear the Weird Al version if it's released so....*cares*

I like both Weird Al and Gaga.

I wasn't fond of Gaga's song for "Born This Way" - namely that's b/c I didn't like the beat. Sounded TOO much like Madonna's "Immaculate" to suit me. 

I prefer her new song "Judas" by far.

This is a Lady Gaga.  See the Grammys' "Born This Way" video if my link doesn't launch it, to get a good idea in a short time.  She got her name from Queen's "Radio Ga Ga".

Supposedly, that's the million dollar question. Just a bit of a a warning, she's not the prettiest thing to look at and closeups of her crotch might not be what you want to see at any point in the day.

Interesting.  I had not heard that rumor myself, but it falls in line with every other internet-manufactured scandal.  I guess at this point, the lady is going to have to drop her panties and spread 'em, if she wants this to go away completely.

Perform This Way video

Als new album drops...uh, today. Been listening to it for the last couple days (no worries, I buy every Al CD) and theres some great stuff. CNR, Party In The CIA, Another Tattoo, Stop Forwarding That Crap To Me are my favorite tracks so far.
