Game of Thrones
« on: Saturday, May 14, 2011, 12:49:01 PM »
I just started watching this show and I am amazed. Excellent production quality, engaging story, fantastic setting, and brilliantly drawn characters with a heck of a cast.

Only 4 episodes so far but I'm enthralled!

I like this show a lot too, much more than I like Camelot ( I can't stand the kid who plays Arthur).

I've been liking both Camelot and GOT.
But, yes, I agree - GOT is the much better show.

Though, Camelot did have their best episode last Friday night since the first two episodes...

I like Game of Thrones better because even though it has it's fantasy elements, it seems more grounded. I think its because of character development, while Camelot feels a bit more rushed.

Like I said before, I hate the kid that plays Arthur in Camelot, he steals people's gals (even his own brother's and thinks its funny) and his "king attitude" seems forced.

I watched the first episode the night before last. And I was immediately hooked. Thing is, I was planning on reading the books before I watched the show. So, I got the first book for my kindle and I am currently devouring it.

After reading all the praise, I hunted down the first episode.  Damn, that got me hooked.  I have a few more to watch now.  Next one tonight at dinnertime.

So does the first season pretty much cover the first book or not even close?

Supposedly the first seasons covers the entire first book. The second season the second book and so on.

After reading the first 1/3 of the book, I went back and watched the first episode. Of course some things were changed, or just slightly moved around, only a couple things were omitted from the show.

Yeah, that's bullshit.  I've been sailing past the artificial cliffhangers by starting up the next episode after I finish watching one.  Then I stop it after I see the resolution.  But I can't do that with E7.  Is this it for the season?  I don't see mention of E8 out there.

Which means I'll catch it during the week sometime.  Sandy doesn't get HBO.  Looking forward to it, thanks.

Yeah, I watched it.  Man, I can't stand having to wait the full week now between episodes.  While I was playing catch up, it moved right along.

Yeah, in the exact same boat.  This was the first one I had to wait at all for, and pretty sure it wasn't a week.  It's going to be unbearable.  I'm just thinking of crushing the books out.

I'm reading the books right now. They are fantastic. Sure Tolkien pretty much defined the fantasy genre, but I honestly think Game of Thrones is the better series between the two.

I've been looking for all the first editions of the book. I must have them.

I've been thinking along those lines too.  Hmm.  Looks like I've located some ebooks.  Chapter organization is hard to follow, as it seems to go by character names.  It will take me a while to find what the series has covered so far (assuming it follows the first book linearly) without getting too far ahead into spoilers for myself.  For example, Chapter 8 covers, er, a certain bad fall.

During my searches, I also found a pen-and-paper RPG.  Heh.  Very detailed, with lots of back story and decent artwork.

Was episode 10 the season finale? I wasn't aware of that.  If so, that sucks we are going to have wait for the next season.

I still haven't watched episode 10 (later tonight), but everyone seems hooked by it.  Thank god I got my ebook reader just in time.  I'm hammering through the first book trying to get to the second.

#10 is from the books and the show didn't cover it. In the books, the Lannisters find out about Ned's plot because his daughter Sansa tells them everything after she was manipulated by the Queen.

Dude, spoiler tag! :P

I will say that Sansa does seem smarten up after the current events, in the book at least. We'll have to wait for the second season to see if the TV series will follow suit.

I haven't read the books, just some synopses. I really should read the books.

Damn that was a cliffhanger at the end. I didn't realize that I watched the first season so close to when it aired - the last episode was a few weeks ago. Now I am going to have to wait forever to see
