BethSoft's Forums got hacked again.

OLD:
Facebook, Twitter, X-Box Live, PayPal and some "Dating sites" attacked -> Update: Looks like a password, user-name, and e-mail dump and they trying to get people to try them everywhere.
Add Sega.
Add also Bioware.
Add League of Legends, Minecraft, EVE Online and The Escapist Magazine to the "hacked" club.
Bethesda Softworks joins the "hacked" club.

I'm trying to figure what you mean by "hacked". Is it some sort of hidden meta meaning beneath the word that you learned from being in the deep inner circles of piracy?

Well, psuedo-hacked.. They do it because all the cool companies are getting "hacked" these days.

I just wonder if this hacking will happen to something on the PC as big as Steam.

If it does...lawsuits might be thrown by LOTS of users, I'd bet.

Imagine all the pissed users unable to download their back-log, unable to play MP online through their servers, unable to activates games, or God knows what-else...
Imagine all the user-names, passwords, e-mails, and credit cards that could get stolen...

It'd be HELL.

You forgot Xbox Live.  I was wondering when it was going to get to that.

Edit:  Looking a bit further, I keep finding comments like this one:

The LulzSec people are trying to look like badasses by implying that the account information was taken from Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft, but third parties have verified that the 62,000 accounts all came from a single, poorly secured forum website for writers.

If so, no need to panic yet.  Apparently, passwords obtained this way were tried on XBL, and some worked (because people tend to use the same password on different accounts).  I need to look further, but this take seems likely correct.

Update: Microsoft has released a statement, which states that Xbox Live was not compromised to the best of Microsoft's knowledge, and the logins/passwords were released at random, with people encouraged to try said information on services like Xbox Live (among others). "This group appears to have posted a list of thousands of potential email addresses and passwords, and encouraged users to try them across various online sites like Xbox Live in the event one of the users happens to use the same password and email address combination. At this time we do not have any evidence Xbox Live has been compromised. However we take the security of our service seriously and work on an ongoing basis to improve it against evolving threats."
