Casino Royale
« on: Saturday, November 18, 2006, 09:05:48 PM »
I saw Casino Royale last night.  Easily the best Bond movie since Goldeneye.  I realize that's not saying much since Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day all sucked ass, but this one was truly a good one.  I'm not sure I liked it more than Goldeneye though.  Overall it's definately got a different feel than the Brosnan Bond movies... much grittier and less over-the-top.

Daniel Craig is a sweet Bond.  Pretty badass and not very much like any other Bond before.  I'd say he's closest to Timothy Dalton.  He's very cold and calculating and has sort of a dry or sarcastic humor.

And Bond's car...  The Aston Martin DBS is about the sexiest car I have ever seen.   :-*

The opening theme was by Chris Cornell, which was unexpected.  As much as I like Chris Cornell, I thought the song sucked pretty bad.

I really really want to see it, but since I just bought an Xbox 360, and the fact that I have a plethora of assignments due next week, I might not have time until next weekend.

I figured Craig would be a good Bond.

Though, I'm really curious how Eva Green's performance is, myself....

I saw it on opening night and loved it.

My thoughts (possible mild spoilers):

Overall, definitely the best Bond movie I've seen in a long time, ranks right up there in my top 3 with From Russia With Love and For Your Eyes Only.

That's how I am with Star Wars.

haha I still haven't seen the final LOTR movie... wasn't too impressed by what I saw in the first two. But yes, I love Bond movies. Can't wait to see this.

I loved Casino Royale. Excellent movie. Though I still maintain that even though Daniel Craig is a good actor, he's just not Bond. He doesn't have the Bond look. Casting him as Bond is like casting a pit bull as Lassie. It might do a great job, but it just doesn't look right.

I enjoyed the movie, but I had to visualize it as a 'generic spy' movie rather than a James Bond flick. DC just doesn't sit right with me.

I liked the movie, and thought it was a throwback to the early Connery Bond films.  When Craig beats the shit out of someone, you believe it, unlike Roger Moore, or maybe even the lithe Pierce Brosnan.  The style also involves more dramatic plot and less mindless action.  Bond comes off looking more like a real person than a near superman.  There's still too much survival by luck, though, a problem shared by all the Bond movies I can remember.  Even the luckiest guy on Earth wouldn't survive in 007's shoes for more than 3 such missions.

The ending did seem kind of dragged out, but still, awesome movie.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but that is seriously lame. I can see how that took you out of the movie.

I hear the cell phone he uses is a silver version of the K800i. I have that phone, but not because of Bond. :P
