The review brilliantly slams the game, or the game is brilliant?  I can't get it to load for some reason.

Edit:

;D  OK, it loaded up finally.  Maybe the site load time was part of the gag?

Haha, nice. I think like 5% of the people who bought it are getting to play it. They also announced emergency server maintenance which probably further fucked things up for a couple hours today.

Obviously, this is why Ubisoft-style DRM is a problem.

I just so knew this was going to happen...
[SMH]

When will these designers learn that "always online" DRM on games that can be basically played alone is POINTLESS?

At least w/ Borderlands PC [Retail] when it dropped, since the MP out-the-box had issues, I had the SP portion to resort to.
Sure, you might have issues activating it through the servers w/ Securom Internet DRM to get it going, but you'll EVENTUALLY get through, as long as they have the server's up...
It's not like EVERYBODY is going to be online at all times to play a game giving you option to play same game SP or MP style, hogging up all the servers and their bandwidth.
The activation only takes SECONDS to MINUTES, if that...

Why does PC GAMER suck now? Because honest guys like Chuck Osborn and Dan Stapleton left the publication:

Both are at Gamespy.

Quote
My fears about the consequence of depending on online servers to allow access to what, for many people, will be a single-player experience have just been realized. While it's pretty common for servers to be slammed at launch for massively multiplayer games, Diablo 3 isn't just any other game (or an MMO). It's a game PC gamers have been waiting a decade to play. To be so close, and yet so far, is just plain cruel. And for those on the East Coast who had to wait until 3am, only to be locked out, it's even crueler.

See, normally I wouldn't be so snarky but I have one small axe to grind here. For literally years, some people on these forums have complained about Diablo 3. From the artwork, to the online only, to the RELEASE DAY BUGS all I hear on these forums aside from a few people is bitching, bitching bitching. Look at what was written just a few posts down "Don't say thousands of us didn't tell you how full of shit you were.". Go back a few pages on this thread and yes, theres a giant argument over this game.

For years, just bitch, bitch bitch... Then the game is finally released. And what does some people do?

They buy the fucking game

at least SOME OTHER people who have been bitching for as long have stuck to their principles and just post any miniscule thing that goes wrong ON THE DAY THE GAME LAUNCHES. Least those people didn't buy the game they've spent years complaining about. So awesome job MysterD. You may bring up super petty issues to assuage your dislike for the game but at least you stuck to your guns. Which is something I can't say for some people around here.

anyways, i think i need a break from this place.

(The quote is from the substantive D3 thread, which I've resolved to leave alone for those who are playing the game.)

You are right keebs.  After some people saw the supreme bullshit pulled by Blizzard clearly, called it out eloquently, then turned around and bought the game wide-eyed anyway, I lost all hope for the future.  If those people succumb to the greatest power grab yet in this industry, the unthinking masses don't stand a chance.  With a decimated opposition, the industry is free to restrict the gamer's freedoms unchallenged.  I am but a lone wolf in the wilderness now, hanging on to what was as it fades away.

Sorry if you feel the need to leave.  I wish you wouldn't.

Haha thanks, Pyro ;D

And thanks Cobra, for the quote ;)

When it comes to complaints it's sometimes difficult to see from all perspectives. The key is to identify if a complaint is justified and if its criticism is constructive. Why do we complain? Because we've been conditioned to operate on the basis of idioms like "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." That with the hope that if enough wheels are squeaking we'll get the the grease!

It wasn't going to change, so either you ended up playing it or not. I'm ideologically opposed to most of what goes on in the industry now which is why I'm mostly not a gamer anymore, but I felt the need after waiting a decade for this game to know what was really going on. That hardly heralds the death of anything. I didn't expect that to happen, but it did, and so what? Even 100 purchases that way weren't going to make any difference, or 1,000. This game was going to make Blizzard rich no matter what because the unthinking masses outweigh all the rest 10 billion to one. There was never any hope as soon as gaming went mainstream. It's been hopeless for years. And if you plan to remain a gamer, you'd better get used to it, because neither you or I are going to make any fucking difference in the end. Which is why I don't plan to remain a gamer.

I mean I'm sure I'll always enjoy some indie games and such, but this isn't for me what it used to be. And thank God. What a fucking waste of time. I've had some great experiences, but I've also wasted half my life on mindless entertainment that did nothing but use up chunks of several resources I can't recoup. I'm regretting a lot of those years at this point. My love for the rush is what suckered me into D3, and it's most definitely a guilty pleasure, but it would be ideological issues aside. Because it's a giant fucking waste of time if you think about it for a minute. You can appreciate the great art, and beyond that, it's all just base entertainment. There's nothing grand about it. Nothing inspiring.

I think sometimes we've taken this all too seriously. As a hobby, this rates up there with watching a superhero movie. At least some games inspire or challenge you emotionally, but D3 isn't one of them. It's pure chocolate cake.

I think sometimes we've taken this all too seriously.

I think you and one other person on this board are guilty of this, and like no one else. Maybe some others can speak for themselves but man, as much as you've called it a waste of time, how much money you claim to waste, or yet, have a lack there of, time and time again, you end up eating what your shoveling. It does grate on the nerves from time to time. I don't think I'd ever call gaming a waste of time as long as its in moderation and that is the key. I won't say that I haven't had thoughts of regrets of all the time and money I spent, but you know, sometimes you got to take a break, and playing games is as good as a hobby as any, plus I like the culture and enjoy being apart of it.

I mean, ultimately yes its a waste of time. But so is just about anything else you do, when you get down to it. I could do those other things (and in fact I *do* do other things), but I like gaming the most. Even if I did something else who is to say that that activity is "better"? Because...other people say its better? Then let them do it. I've got my own thing I like.

tl;dr: DON'T JUDGE ME

Interestingly enough, I believe I first met you fuckers in a thread on the IGN boards where Idol said he spent three or four hours a day on the computer and I came back with "OMG!  What a waste of time!!"  To which he replied "Like, moreso than watching tv?".  A reply which I read after watching a two and a half hour hockey game.  Well played Idol, well played.

Anyway, I cant remember why, but something about Starcraft 2 pissed, me off.  Always online and would?dnt connect or drm or something. So, I'm going to find a way to steal this.  Like, I don't even want it really, I just want to seed it.

Fuck you Blizzard.  Fuck you for some transgression I can't even remember.

Haha. You guys need to chill. People bitched about D3 for a long time, but if you got it and enjoy it now, well you know you are eating your own words. At the same time, who cares, enjoy the game. In the end, what was said in the past was just talking and bitching cause no matter how good the game is now, the "always online" policy is still fucking annoying.

Regarding SC2: at least you can play SP offline... :)

Ahhhh Take it easy. Why is there so much validation going on?

Oh come on :P. If you are really going to stand by your beliefs then you won't buy this game out of principle, and not what it does to Blizzard's revenue. It just seems like you want to have your cake, and eat it to. You want to be this principled person who takes a stand, yet you also want to enjoy these games, that obviously have much to offer, yet irk you so much.

Que, I just feel you spent so much time bashing this game, that you feel the need to somehow justify your purchase here. Really, dude, no one cares so much. Just play it and have fun. :)

Regarding the 'time wasting' thing. :P

I've been there. I was unhappy with my lack of creativity and productivity, and video games having been such a huge part of my life were the logical target. I was a bit depressed I guess with not maximizing my potential, and video games reminded me of this.

I don't know if I am projecting here, but I feel that Que has gone through some big changes recently, and is on a creative journey that hasn't reached an end. I am still not nearly where I want to be as a creative person, but I am out of that zone, thankfully.

I just feel like because you are frustrated as you are still on your journey, you are sort of taking it out on video games. You will reach an end, and it will be brilliant, and when you do, you will find all this negativity towards your hobby silly. :) Trust me, and trust in yourself, and trust the world.

I feel that when you are settled in other avenues of your life, you will find yourself less irritated by trivial issues in the video game industry.

... trivial issues in the video game industry.

There is nothing trivial about what Blizzard may or may not have done to me when I couldn't log into Star Craft II to validate for offline play one morning or something. I don't even know anymore, but fuck those guys and their shitty games.

Make me a fucking Shining Force and then maybe you'll see some of my money and my willingness not to seed your shit so poor people can enjoy it.
