I'm betting pretty soon it will be illegal for passengers to be conscious on an aeroplane. They'll have a sort of "hyper-sleep" thing goin' on.

That would solve quite a few problems.. Security checks would be a little more humane, no more noise, the airlines would save on food expenses (hopefully decreasing the price of tickets), there'd be less flaming poopballs falling out of the sky.. The possibilities are amazing!

If the stewardesses wore those same outfits, sign me up.

It's now illegal to light a match in an airplane?  Boy, how things have changed.

Ever since that dude attempted the shoe bomb thing, I guess. So...it was allowed at one point? Why would you need matches on an airplane? Other than fart masking.

For some reason I always thought that was probably illegal. Even pre 9/11 I'd smack someone for doing that on my flight. Do not jeopardize my flight!!!!

I remember when smoking was common on an aeroplane, it wasn't surprising to see anyone lighting a match on the plane. Lighters were more common though, in fact they used to sell novelty lighters on the in-flight duty-free trolley.

I remember when people used to call them aeroplanes.

Wait... no I don't.

You are right though Xessive, I used to travel a lot when I was very young and I remember there were seats allocated for smokers on a plane.

Yeah, and the good ol' "No Smoking" light, which used to switch off when the plane reached a stable altitude. Now the stupid light is still there and it's always on, even though smoking on the plane is prohibited at all times! You think they'd wanna save by just putting a sticker.

That may be true, but I'm sure if someone actually tries to smoke on a plane they'd get an earful from the people around or the stewardesses. I just think it's a waste to have a "No Smoking" light. There's no "No Mobile Phone" light.

Its probably just a holdover from days gone by, and a reminder to people to not light up on the plane. Its a confined space, so yeah you can yell at a dude for lighting up and make him stop, its not like you can open a window to vent it out.

Seriously, I've been places where it should be extremely obvious that theres no smoking allowed, yet people will light up and say "Well, I dont see a sign".

And with as much energy in an airplane thats heated, lighted, all the mechanics being operated, etc...they probably arent too concerned with the power draw of one extra lightbulb.

Plus it's a great pickup line if a hot girl is nearby:

"Hey, the no-smoking sign is on."
"I'm not smoking"
"Yeah you are. Smokin hot."

 :-\

Nothing? Damn.

With all that technology you'd think they could put in a fucking smoking lounge and vent it somehow.  Would it really be that hard?  Not that I'm bitter.  I don't like smoking in confined places, only outside, which is good since you can't smoke indoors anywhere in California.  Though I did once have a smoke while I had breakfast in Vegas.  That was cool as hell because I had never smoked a cigarette in the interior of a building before.  I think that was probably one of three times total for me.
