Guess this is the emulation generation.

Cool. Action Replay + SDLoader program + Nintendo SD adapter = run emulators on the Wii.

Also since Sony allows people to install Linux on their PS3s, people have gotten emulators running on that as well. And unlike the PSP, Sony really cant do anything about it without removing the Linux option entirely.

So...thats neat.

I really don't get why Sony is kinda allowing people to do this on the PS3, but they try and squash it on the PSP.  It doesn't make any sense.

Its probably just a side effect, and they dont have much choice. PSP is a closed platform, they control everything. But by allowing people to install linux on the PS3, they cant really stop people from running linux programs including emulators.

The question is...why allow people to install Linux in the first place?

My question is why are you questioning this?  Last I checked emulation is a good thing.  I can see it getting stomped out eventually by both programs.  Maybe through some kind of firmware update like Sony did with the PSP?

The community keeps finding ways around the firmware updates.  I doubt they can close Pandora's box if they release their systems with it already open.  They do try hard, though.  They're up to firmware 3.01 on the PSP.  Yes, it's already dumped and decrypted.

One reason they'd want to stop free emulation is that they want to make money off of it.  Look at all the 8- and 16-bit console games that are being re-released lately in collections, and for things like the Wii.
